Since the Astros didn't offer arbitration to Roger Clemens last week, speculation has been rampant that the Rocket will wind up in one of his old haunts if he decides to pitch next season.

There is a little more fueling such talk now. The Yankees have had talks with Clemens' agents about a possible return to pinstripes, according to one of his reps. And the Red Sox also have made contact, according to a report in yesterday's Boston Globe.

"We have talked about things in general with the Yankees," one of Clemens' agents, Randy Hendricks, wrote in an E-mail to the Daily News yesterday. "We have told the teams that have called to talk to us in January because there is no rush, due to Roger's timetable."

Clemens, 43, has several options for next year, including retirement after two years in Houston. He might not decide on pitching until February or March, after pitching for the United States in the World Baseball Classic.

Clemens cannot re-sign with the Astros until May 1 by baseball rules, but some in baseball believe that's what he will do. He may wait to pitch whether he returns to Houston or not - one fewer month in the season might be better for Clemens, who had physical problems in the final month of the season and left his World Series start after only two innings due to hamstring trouble.

Clemens undoubtedly will be wooed by the Texas Rangers, too, along with the Yankees and Red Sox. The Mets, who seem to have a rare baseball luxury - surplus starting pitching - have not called about Clemens. Hendricks wrote: "We haven't heard from them, but I can't see Roger playing for them over the Yankees."

I wonder if he would sign now or wait until that world baseball thing...if he pitches well he can use that for more $$$

My buddy, Matt Morris (we went to school together), looks to be signing with the Giants for three years. There was some talk of him possibly going to the Mariners, but Mike Matheny is his old catcher and is comfortable with him.

Giants is a good move for Morris!

For you NY baseball fans - here is a name - two weeks ago I ran into Alan Watson at a bar in Queens - LOL! Remember him?

Yes, I remember him--he pitched for the Mets & the Yanks a few years ago. I liked him.

It's official, Matt Morris signed with the Giants for 3 years, $27 million, with an option for a fourth year. I'm happy for Matt, but I know how much he liked being in St. Louis.

I just heard on ESPN radio that the Yankees are interested in Nomar--to play 1st base!

I know - how funny is that! All of them on the same team!!

Some trades to discuss:
1. Milton Bradley to Oakland
2. Vazquez to White Sox

1. Good luck to Oakland :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

2. Crap. That's what the Sox needed -- to get stronger in pitching.

Billy Beane is saying "no", but I'm kind of hoping that the A's acquisition of MB might make them more likely to move Kotsay. I wouldn't mind seeing him land in the Bronx.

Its amazing that the White Sox staff got better with that trade - Yes Better!

What do you all make of this Nomar stuff!

I'm surprised that 4 teams are after Nomar!

I'm not surprised. Assuming you can get him for a reasonable price (and a short contract -- one or two years max), he's worth a shot. If healthy, he still should be able to be productive.

I'm still crossing my fingers that maybe the Indians can entice him by promising him (assuming he's healthy) the 3rd base position, which I think he's looking to play rather than 1st or outfield.

Well, if nothing else, the Kansas City Royals have won the Alphabet sweepstakes -- today they signed Doug Mientkiewicz and Mark Grudzielanek!

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A simple second-to-first ground ball out could be a real challenge for broadcasters in Kansas City next year. The Royals agreed Friday to one-year contracts with second baseman Mark Grudzielanek and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz.

It appears that Nomar has chosen to go home to Southern California by agreeing today to a one year contract with the LA Dodgers. He'll most likely play first base.

Nomar Garciaparra, only a couple of seasons removed from standing with the best shortstops in the game, agreed today to a one-year contract with the Dodgers, according to sources close to negotiations.

A two-time batting champion and five-time All-Star, but severely limited by injuries for three of the past five seasons, Garciaparra, 32, chose his hometown Dodgers over similar offers from the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros. The Dodgers will hold a news conference Monday.

He probably will play first base for the Dodgers and bat behind cleanup hitter Jeff Kent in an order retooled with the recent additions of free agents Rafael Furcal and Bill Mueller. Garciaparra, who joins former Boston Red Sox teammates Derek Lowe and Mueller, along with Grady Little, his manager for two seasons in Boston, also has agreed to play left field if the Dodgers are unable to upgrade there.

He is expected to agree to a contract with a base salary of about $6.5 million, with incentives – based on games played -- that would bring the total worth of the deal above $8 million.

And now, Johnny Damon has just signed with Yankees.

This one hurts here in Red Sox Nation. He was the consummate lead off guy, and is part of the reason Manny and Big Papi could knock in so many runs.

But, he is going to have get a haircut :rotfl: and a shave.....

Its going to TOTALLY kill us. Granted he throws like a girl but he was one of, maybe even the best leadoff hitter of his time. He is the reason why Manny and Ortiz had such great numbers. AHHH!!!! This is NOT the Christmas present I had in mind
