Baseball Hot Stove

Missy - I also heard that his contract has a clause that he is assured a spot in the organization after his playing is up! I found that odd!

I dont have a problem with the signing though - The Mets did a great job with their bench last year - I am going to miss Marlon Anderson!!!

Anybody here think that Miguel Tejada might be traded to the Red Sox after demanding to be traded yesterday?
Am I the only baseball fan who's ticked off by this? These superstars demand these long-term, high priced deals and then a couple of years later decide they made a mistake and they want out. I'm not just picking on Tejada here either. Obviously, A-Rod started the pity party when he was with Texas, which pretty much meant he was going to end up with either the Red Sox or the Yanks. Now Manny wants out of Boston. These mega-priced six and seven year contracts need to stop, but here you've got Boras demanding seven years for 32 year old Johnny Damon. When will the MLB owners stop the cycle? It just really bothers me.

OK, rant over :teeth:

I would be surprised if he didn't end up a batting coach somewhere. Maybe thats what they are thinking. I think I read where he has a history with Minaya.

I'll miss him in a Braves uniform.

No, you're not alone. Drives me nuts. I remember when Roger Clemens signed with the Blue Jays. He could have signed with the Yanks, turned them down because the Jays had just won back to back Series. Then when the Yanks starting winning, he started whining. And remember Mike Hampton signing with Colorado? "the schools are so good...." then when he couldn't win there, he wanted out. Makes you admire the guys that stick it out.

Renteria to Atlanta for 3B prospect Andy Marte. Now if we can just off load him to TB for Lugo we'd be on a roll! :goodvibes

Except we do have that burden of Manny still....d'oh!

I love this deal, especially since the Sox will be paying 40% of Renteria's salary for the next 3 years. How does Schuerholz talk people into doing that? Thats huge for cheap-skates like us.

Wow - its good to see we have like 5 or 6 people that are baseball loyalists on these boards - LOL!

This has been a very fun offseason!! I really cant wait for pitchers and catchers!

Because he's simply the best GM in the business. And deals like this are why people who know baseball never count the Braves out. (doesn't mean I would be unhappy to see the Mets finally beat them.....)

As for my beloved Yanks. You can say that for once they didn't go out and spend a lot of money, but I have this awful feeling that it somehow is going to blow up in their faces. What if Wang, Chacon, and Small , do not pitch as well as they did this past year? Plus, you've got to worry about Pavano and Wright, not to mention Mussina isn't getting any younger and Johnson...let's not go there. I expect either a really good season for my team, or it could be downright awful.

Let's face it, unfortunately, the Yanks are fast becoming the retirement home. Johnson......ugh......Mussina....getting up there in age...

I'm still in shock that they let Flash get away. He was the only consistent one in the bullpen all last year.

Matt Morris a Mariner? I like the sound of that.

I would too -- assuming he stays healthy, he could have a big year, especially is a park like Seattle (is it still called SafeCo?)

Still Safeco Field (it's an insurance agency) and still quite the pitchers ballpark.

People keep saying the Mariners are looking for a #1. Felix Hernandez will be the #1, an AL all -tar.

Its amazing - a couple of years ago you would debate who was better, Arod, Nomar or Jeter and now Nomar is begging for an everyday spot!

I blame Mia Hamm...

Yet another reason why soccer is bad for baseball :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I like soccer too. Without soccer, what would I point to when people say there is nothing more boring then baseball. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Just teasing, I don't mind soccer.

HA - well for you soccer fans - world cup draw is on now

Back to baseball - Big Hurt to Oakland and the Soriano to the Sox talks are starting - Oh man - Let manny go to the O's - his fantasy numbers will increase with that short fence in left! = )

Cards are dangling Jason Marquis but they want an Impact outfielder - im sorry - did anyone see this guys season last year! Terrible - what do they expect for him? I guess he has been solid in the past but last year was awful

I just read where Soriano is mouthing we won't change positions in DC. There was speculation they would try to move him to the OF. Bob, I saw the tribe inked, Wickman, he and Hoffman where on the Braves wish list. I wonder where Mark Wholers hangs these days.

I saw that too - that means they have to do something with Guzman who makes like 4Million a year! Thats going to be difficult!

Yeah, I kind of figured the Hoffman thing wasn't going to happen. Hoffman was just using other teams to boost his contract with the Padres (he had no plans on leaving San Diego -- not that I can blame him).

Wickman should be ok for one more year assuming his arm holds out -- they've got a young guy waiting for the closer spot, but they think he needs one more year.

Well, I heard that Boston offered Manny to Baltimore for Tejada. Nothing happening yet.

And Boston wants Theo Epstein to act as a consultant to 2 co-GMs.
