Baseball 08

DS starts T-ball later this week. Yesturday they had the parade. Here is DS (in the middle with the big smile) enjoying himself.

I would like to commend your son for his fine selection of teams. Being a loyal Diamondbacks fan I have about the same smile on my face too. Nothing like starting the season 18-7 with a 6 game lead over the other NL West teams to put a bounce in your step.

I thought of you Jeff when we found out his team name. I really like those color uniforms. Very cool. Apparently so do a lot of other people. I went online to buy myself that style hat and it is on 4-6 week backorder everywhere I check (diamondbacks web site, mlb, sports authority, and a few others). If I get a chance to head into Boston I'll try the Red Sox shop. They carry everything in there (including NY hats, YUK!!!, but thats the nature of the business).

Baseball season officially started for us tonight. Not a great night to play though. 5 minutes before we were to leave to go to the field it started raining. The kids, of course, didn't mind. Each kid on each time got 1 turn at bat and each team played the field. It was a lot of fun. The very first hit EVERY kid in the field ran to get the ball. Then of course there was the base running.

Lighting wasn't great. Got a lot of out of focus shots due to not upping the ISO high enough and also not having VR on. With slower than focal length shutter speeds (1/125th or so at the 300mm end), its tough to get no camera shake at the 300mm end. 20 or so more games to go. Still plenty of season left.

Anyway, here is DS in is first officialy at bat:

He had a wonderful time. 2 games next week. :teeth:

Here's a few of our guy! I'm really not a baseball fan, but I'm learning to love the game! Watching the excitment when these little guys (9yrs) get a hit is so much fun! And it's great practice time with my camera - keeps me from yelling too much!!!:rotfl: Any comments or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Marge, Two tips, 1. Keep firing away and 2. Crop in on your subject a little more, it will really add a lot to your pictures.

If your son is 9, by the time he hits High School, you'll be having Baseball withdrawls when the season is over.

Master,
by "crop in" do you mean post processing or get a better zoom!? Post processing I can do - how much do you think they need? The better zoom - I'm not sure how far out on the 300 mm I was,I'll try to tighten it up. We have a game in the morning, I'll see what happens - provided the rain gets thru here tonight!

It's funny about that "withdrawals" issue - my dd is a gymnast and I'm already missing the competition season!!LOL I don't know how I'll handle it with two sports!!!:upsidedow

sorry, don't mean to hog the board, but here is a series that I have of my ds running to first - (last year he was out because the ball hit his foot while running to base, so when I saw that I had actually gotten these, I had to giggle!) I was trying to watch, shoot, and not fall over backwards as he ran to base!! I'm not very coordinated, so to do all three was a major feat!!:thumbsup2

Cropping is what I ment, I actually tend to shoot a little wider than needed, and then crop, you'll often get a lot more of the ball in your shots that way.

Here is a very quick example of how I would have cropped one of them.

Thank you!! I guess I really don't need a pic of the other teams coachs now do I!!!:goodvibes

From what I know about nothing I would think your could bring your camera just about anywhere.

Great pictures. I loved this thread last year, and this year, I'm so excited I have a longer zoom lens for my son's games. Today was opening day in our town, and the rain held off for the parade, and most of our first game. Didn't take too many today because of the rain, but with two games a week this year, I'm sure I'll get plenty of practice. The kids had so much fun today, even though it was freezing and wet.

I think the pictures here are enough to make baseball fans out of nearly anyone. I am speaking as someone who attends all of the San Franciso Giants games only because she is paid to and never did so before. Well, not exactly all of them because I don't travel with the team, but I am a photographer at the home games.

The pictures y'all have placed here of the Little League are really cute. I guess the children don't want to be cute when they are playing baseball though. Just think about it however. If these kids grow up to play for the MLB, your pictures could be worth some real money as "I knew him when" pictures.

Master Mason,
I took your advice and tightened up on my photos. Let me know what you think. TIA!
