Baseball 08

My family and I went to Arizona this year for "spring break"...it was my first time to Arizona and Brewers Spring Training!!!

March 21 vs. Padres...
Before the game we spent some time walking around and soaking in all the action.

What a shame that we had to sit in sunny, 80-degree weather when we could be home in Milwaukee shoveling snow!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to post photos from the CCBL this year. As I am the photographer for the Wareham Gatemen this year, I believe that the photographs will all belong to the team and not so much to me. Oh well. That is a tradeoff for being able to be on the field, I suppose. I will be attending a couple games as a fan, so I will share those shots. How's that? Of course, this is still 10 weeks away. I just now got home from one of the winter meetings, actually.

This sounds familiar. I work photographing the Giants games, and the fans are always wanting me to e-mail pictures to them. What they mean, of course, is for free. If fans don't want pictures of themselves with the players or other fans to be printed or put on the Internet, I will angle them out of the picture or at least make sure that they are unrecognizable in it. What I won't do is what they more often want for me to do, which is to give away the boss's money.

Doug Davis...
n20305212_33256216_1604.jpg

That's a great picture of Doug Davis. Doug was diagnosed with thyroid cancer during spring training. He made his first two starts during the regular season, the second on being last Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Thursday he underwent surgery to remove the cancerous thyroid. The doctors said the surgery was successful. Doug came to the game yesterday (4/13) and sat in the dugout. He was in great spirits and said he felt good. Depending on how his body reacts to the thyroid hormone treatments Doug Davis could be back pitching in 4-6 weeks.

Great pictures from the games. I would imagine you were one of the countless Wisconsin fans in attendance that cheered when the public address announcer stated that it was 80 degrees in Arizona while in Milwaukee it was 28 degrees and snowing. I sat next to a guy who was thrilled to tell me his flight had been canceled due to snow so he would have to remain at spring training for a few more days. Living in Arizona it is sometimes hard to fathom snow and cold is still the norm in parts of the country.

I heard that about Doug Davis...very sad. I hope he's able to come back soon!

Oh yes, we did cheer when the announcer said that it was snowing in Milwaukee. Lucky for us we left the day before otherwise we would've never made it...and it would've been our second cancelled flight in less than 3 months. :scared1:

So you are a Cubs fan? Are you guys having some sort of anniversary celebration this year for going 100 years without a World Series???? ;) :teeth:

Yes, i am a CUBS FAN!! :cool1: I can't wait to go to the game this Saturday... 3rd row up from the Cubs on deck circle. As far as i know.. they are in the mist of planning a celebration for us for when we win the World Series this year! :thumbsup2 Here's a little magic for the Cubs! :wizard:

I do like the Brewers park though. :)

If the Cubs win the World Series we will know that global warming is real since "HELL WILL HAVE FROZEN OVER". :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

GO REDS ! !

Thats a good one!:rotfl2: But lets see.. we (the Cubs) are 14-6 & the Reds are 9-12..... and your stuck with Dusty! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Sorry, somehow I just noticed this response just now.

I know what you mean. I'm hoping that I don't get asked for stuff, but I'm sure I will and will have to turn them down I suppose. I have to get to the bottom of the legalities before I step on the field for them. It is a non-profit league, but I still feel I am responsible for giving them all the pics and not giving them away to everyone who wants them. We'll see what they say. :confused3

Ok, here are 2 pictures i took at the Cubs game Saturday.

And they won 13-1

AWESOME pictres!!! Thank you for sharing. It's depressing knowing we won't get to Wrigley this year - during regular season, anyway. ;) ***udome has been a great addition to the team. And I was sooooo happy to see Murton back. I hope he stays.

GO CUBBIES!!!

Michelle :flower3:

Ooops! I guess we'll have to call the new guy, Kosuke!! :upsidedow

Thank you Michelle! I will be going back to Wrigley on May 13th (same row as the day i took those pictures) and May 16th. I was really happy with all the pictures i got. Saturday when we went to the game, there were A LOT of girls cheering for Murton! My husband said it must be the red hair. :lmao: I think he will stay up with the Cubs for awhile. The Cubs are lucky to have Kosuke with them as well!!

HEY!!!! We had a SUNNY Saturday today!!! :cool1: Hallelujah!!! :woohoo: of course, our team doesn't play til tomorrow....30 percent chance of t-storms...:rolleyes1

Anyway...I finally took the new 40D out of the box. So far I'm afraid I'm going to have buyer's remorse, not seeing improvements in my pics (compared with my Rebel XT), but tomorrow will be the real test at my son's baseball.

In the meantime... today our baseball organization went to see a college game at Norfolk State University in Va. Our boys got a kick out of being on the field for the National Anthem, then getting High Fives from the players as they were announced onto the field...

I was happy to find one feature on the 40D that was a huge help - the focal point on the view screen worked great today. This picture is significant in that I was shooting at least 5 feet away from a chain link fence (fans couldn't move closer).

Still, it didn't work well once the action started moving...

so, I gave up with the camera and just enjoyed the sun, the hot dogs and the game! I even had Cracker Jacks! :goodvibes Spartans over the Savannah State Titans 5-0!:cheer2:

Hey Y'all! Heading to Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium in July for a couple of games.:cool1:

Does anyone know what, if any, camera restrictions there are? I would really hate to have to turn around and leave my Canon 40D in the car for the game (rather not bring it if I know in advance that it's not allowed). I didn't see anything on the Yankee Stadium site that would give me any insight. Thanks for any info!:thumbsup2

Last year my co worker brought her Sony large camera with her and she was able to take pics.

I have been able to get my camera bag, camera and lens in to the different baseball parks i have been to.. Chicago, St. Louis & Mil. The only place i ever had a problem getting my bigger lens into was in Detriot for the Lions game... and i was even up high.. not like the bigger lens would have helped any. They said that the NFL sets the limits for the lens size, but i have never had problems with the MLB.

DS starts T-ball later this week. Yesturday they had the parade. Here is DS (in the middle with the big smile) enjoying himself.
