We'll be staying14 nights at the HRH in August so I guess my Bro' and I will be spending many a night propping up the bar. (Hic!)
What are the bars like?
The Velvet Bar does not look very cosy. Is there a lounge bar?
Do they stay open late? Any entertainment on?
Are kids allowed in?
What about Citywalk? Are there any cosy little bars there or is it all noisy nightclubs and restaurants?

Am I an alcoholic?

(All these questions have made me thirsty!!)

I enjoyed the Velvet bar very much, and it does have a cozy feeling to me. The Bar American (which has entertainment on select nights) at the Portofino, as well as the Thristy Fish Bar are quite nice. As for CityWalk, Pat O'Brien's has the most cozy feeling and is a great deal of fun. The rest of the bars/ clubs at CityWalk have do not have the same feeling - they are very large and open facilities. Entertainment can always be found at Pat O'Brien's and City Jazz, and is often available at Motown Cafe, Hard Rock Live and the Latin Quarter. Pick up a CityWalk schedule upon arrival, as it lists all of the entertainment for the current month.

Boy, I'm jealous that you get to spend 2 weeks at the HRH - enjoy!!!!

At HRH, you can sit in the spacious lobby lounge area outside of Velvet. The waitresses from Velvet cruise through there regularly.

My hot bar tip for CityWalk is the bar at the back of Cigarz, a cigar store at the top of the zig-zag street that used to be called Lombard Street that runs up from the esplanade level to the upper exit to the Cineplex. Look for the Captain Crackers shop and head up the steps.

Cigarz has tobacco drying overhead and a very strong tobacco odor, so if that turns you off, it's not for you. But if you'd like to smoke a fine cigar, it's a great place and most people don't even know it's there.

I never got to check out the bar at The Palm. If it's anything like The Palm by us, than you could consider it cozy. :jester:

You're so lucky to be going for a "fortnight"!!

Thanks guys. I'm glad that you like the Velvet bar Adam, it just looked a little bit "Plastic" in the photo's I've seen. Maybe they don't do it justice!
Kelly, my brother is a big Cigar smoker so I think we'll try out the bar at Cigarz (Is it actually at the back of the shop?)
As for 2 weeks at the HRH - you should see what it cost!! (Mind you I guess most of the cost is for the flights over there!)
I'm sure it will be worth it! :D

Some people may call Velvet "plastic". I think it has more personality than any bar at City Walk. The walls have rock and roll memorabilia (Tina Turner and Cher I believe), the Hard Rock music video network plays on Plasma flat screens, the tables and furniture have that rock in roll lifestyle and they serve flavored martinis. This bar carries the Hard Rock theme to another level.

Okay I'm now convinced that the Velvet bar is a lot nicer than it looks on the photo's - my DW will know where to find us most evenings!
Any thoughts on the pool bar?

We ate lunch at the pool bar, it was nice and relaxing there. We also liked the Velvet Lounge, it was nice to kick back on a couch and enjoy a drink.
