Bars at Contemporary?

Looks like my annual holiday season solo visit to WDW is pretty much set. I've made my reservation for the Contemporary, and will be staying there for five nights nights in December. (Tower room with MK view). But in reading the posts here, I've been told that NO ONE is allowed to visit the lounge/bar on the 14th floor unless he or she has a dinner reservation at the California Grill and even then, he or she may visit the lounge only on the date of the actual reservation. This strikes me as very unfair. Unreasonable. (An adult solo visitor not welcome in a lounge housed in the resort he or she is visiting? They have to be kidding.)

But, my question is. ...

Are there any other lounge/bars in the resort that guests not eating at the California Grill are allowed to visit, other than a bar at a swimming pool. If so, where are they? I've searched TGM and the UG, and don't see Info on this anywhere.

Thanks for the Info.

The Contemporary has the "Outer Rim Bar." I believe it's on the 4th floor. Very nice place.

The days of the "Top of the World" lounge, where you could go up to the 14th floor of the CR and enjoy a cocktail and the view, are long gone.

If you had ever been at the CG trying to enjoy a (pricey) meal before this admission policy was in effect it would seem more reasonable to you. I was there a few times, and after spending $125+ for dinner for two people, had parents literally pushing their children between me and the window to watch the fireworks over the MK. Even when they let people come up and watch from the observation deck it didn't help matters.

Last time I was at CG the "lounge" area consisted of something like 3 small tables jammed together. It's been a couple of years and at this point, with the new (and in my opinion, very welcome) admission policy even those tables may be gone.

Actually, we were just at the CR back in February, and we were able to go up and have a drink (or two). We just checked in on the 2nd (pretty sure it's the 2nd) floor and told them we just wanted to go up for a drink. If there's room, they'll let you up. I believe they start allowing people up around 5:30. Good Luck!!:thumbsup2
There is another bar called the "Outer Rim". Unfortunately, they will probably be in the process of moving it down to the 1st floor, however it might be completed by your visit. Only time will tell!!;)
