Barrowing points – How far in advance?

Since the implementation of the new search program I have not been able to get the search results desired, I have to ask this question of DVC members.

How long in advance can I barrow future year points? If I wish to make a eleven month reservation, can I use points further that a year out?

All points use is based on the date of stay and use year, not when you make the reservation. If your dates of stay are in your 2006 use year, you can borrow points from your 2007 use year. If your date of stay is in your 2007 use year, then you can borrow 2008. It has nothing to do with when you make the reservation.

Points can only be borrowed at the time a reservation is made. If you are reserving at 7 months out and need to borrow from your next use year, MS will do that for you at that time.

Remember that booking windows and borrowing have nothing to do with each other. Only the amount of points available in a use year and how many you have at your disposal during the time of the reservation will dictate if and when you can borrow. You can never borrow more than the total points you have for a given use year either.

If I read you right, I can make 2007 Thanksgiving reservations in mid December of ’06 using 2008 points.

If I have a February UY, what happens if plans change and something has to be cancelled, do I have too use those points prior to February 2008?

Yes, a reservation for Thanksgiving 2007 can use 2008 use year points with a February use year. If you need to cancel, those points will remain in your Feburary use year and will have to be used prior to the last day of the use year.

Yes, the borrowed points cannot be put back into their original use year, so they would expire on Jan 31, 2008.
