As fun as it might be to a farm to pick a pumpkin from a pumpkin patch, I also don't want to over pay for something that I'm going to cut up and eventually throw in the compost pile. That being said, this weekend, we went to a nearby farm and picked out a small pumpkin and two little white gourds for $7. I knew that our Market Basket supermarkets had HUGE pumpkins on sale for 39 cents a pound, which seemed to be a much better price than the farm, but the market doesn't have a hay maze or hay ride LOL. Anyway, this morning, I went to Market basket and bought a 24 pound pumpkin that's going to make an awesome jack-o-lantern - I HOPE - that cost just under $10, and it's HUGE! Then I headed over to my Target and they had pumpkins almost as big as the market basket one for $3.99 each! I'm not sure if all Targets have them in the store, but I almost wanted to bring my $10 one back to the market! Anyway, check your Target if you're looking for a sweet pumpkin deal!

I saw them at Target and when we went (Saturday afternoon) they were only $2.00 - half off!!! My DS has gone to the pumpkin patch every year since he was born in October (so 10 years now) and I had to keep up the tradition but thought - man, what a great deal and they were nice pumpkins too as you stated! :thumbsup2

My brother and dad run a farm that includes pumpkins, a corn maze, hayrides, pumpkin train rides, a playground for children, a baseball diamond, a basketball court, a pumpkin maze for little kids, fire pit in the evening, etc., etc. For some of the things there is a charge (e.g. corn maze, hay ride), but much of the fun stuff is available gratis to the families that visit to enjoy a nice couple of hours outside with their children and grand children. Their pumpkins cost a bit more than at Walmart and Target (to whom they also sell their pumpkings), but they are offering an experience, too. Farm markets are not making a killing by selling 6 dollar pumpkins.

I just wanted to a plug for the farmers. It's hard work and without them, there is no food.

If you have an Aldi near you they had awesome pumpkins. The first two HUGE ones I got were 3.99. I went back two weeks later and they were on sale for 1.99.

This. I'm helping my local farm do farm tour/hayride/pumpkin picking field trips during the day for little schoolkids. They actually sell their pumpkins cheaper on the hayride than they do by the pound because they want to give people a good experience. At this time of year pumpkins are just about all that's left for them to sell and I'd just as soon spend a few extra dollars supporting my local farm that also gives me better-quality fruits and vegetables the rest of the year than the supermarket.

We got ours at Aldi's this year. We ended up with 2 quite HUGE ones for $2.88 each :thumbsup2

We got one from our local farmer's market - they actually gave one for free to the kids to paint.

The others we got from a local farm that has a corn maze. They sell tickets with and without pumpkins-it's an extra $3 on the ticket price for a pumpkin.

I'd rather spend my money locally.
