Has anyone ever stayed here??? I'm really concerened. I was originally set to stay at the Sheraton Vistana, however we had o cancel our trip because of Frances and all that was available for Oct was this "Barefoot" place..

help!

Stayed there a couple of years ago, clean and efficient but not much else. Old Town, which is like a county fair is nearby, but the resort doesn't have much more than a swimming pool.

I looked at the website and it doesn't seem to be too much there, oh well just trying to make it to WDW, don't think we'll spend much time there anyway, we have a full agenda..

Thanks for you comments!

was your Vistana exchange through RCI proper, or was it a skyauction/RCI exchange situation ?

did you cancel directly or did you get an email saying the resort was unavailable for occupancy ( which would mean they cancelled on you ) ?

lawgs

I originally booked the Vistana through RCI and cancelled through RCI because I just didn't want to the take of chance of Ivan coming to Florida....while we were there.

And there was no availablitiy at any other RCI resort in Florida in Oct except the Barefoot place........

thanks

you are probably up against the "exchange" pool then, and not the total inventory available to RCI

the bonus week pool for florida is showing 15 resorts for special promotions/bonus weeks for october ( with 11 of them in orlando area )

the exchange pool with our OLCC week 52 shows 14 exchanges in orlando/kissimmee for october (even the houses at summer bay are in this list )

we are of the same thinking as you. were gonna go today but when we saw the approaching of Ivan decided "they" did not need us down there now.....we were able to re book air and skyauction is working on the "week" reschedule for us now ( skyauction actually emailed us and said the resort we were going to, was not accepting new check ins since they were evacuating the resort )

hoping things sort themselves out for everyone both vacationers and residents of florida ....

Hey lawgs,

Would you mind my asking where you guys were heading (which resort?) We are supposed to arrive at CPGV on 9/11 (won through Skyauction), but are also having serious second thoughts due to Ivan's approach...we're driving and were already concerned about being down there under the current conditions (ie gas shortages, etc). You mentioned they contacted you first? Perhaps we will be out of luck and unable to make a change...

Arrrggg...I hate this! Of course, the situation for the residents is much more dire and our thoughts and prayers are with them above all else. But these dumb hurricanes have really wreaked havoc with lots of vacation plans, including ours. [Okay, I'm done with my personal rant! :( ]

we were suppost to go to silver lake

originally when we contacted both skyauction and silver lake they said they would be open for business for check ins thus skyauction said there was nothing they could do

later that day we got the email from Skyauction saying the resort was being evacuated and no checkins would be available

skyauction said they are working with their supplier ( rci ) in trying to reschedule

my guess, unless they actually close your resort, you will lose out

we were actually trying to rebook and get there for tuesday since it seemed we might lose the week, then the email came so we had another option especially when looking at the map of the new storm and wondering if they really needed us down during this unfortunate time weather wise

I changed my reservation to Orbit One Vacation Villas, this place has much better reviews in on RCI. Have you heard of it..

Thanks!

I have never stayed there but I read that it is clean, the units are large (except for the kitchen) and VERY convenient to the parks.

Not many on-site activities and a small pool but if your doing the parks all week sounds like you should do OK.

think Orbit One is an early timeshare in Orlando, as long as they have kept it up, it should not be a problem

disneysteve has posted he is going to stay there ...check out his posts

Thank you for posting your info, Lawgs. I haven't tried to call RCI yet to see if they'd be willing to let us reschedule, but I doubt they will since the resort is open now and we were due to check in tomorrow. We are not personally out the $$ because some friends paid for it, couldn't go and gave the ressie to us (both our names are on it), but it's a bummer to see it go to waste. Though our previous experiences have been good, we're learning first hand one of the caveats of using Skyauction. :(

Straitlover, thanks for the info about Orbit One guests being able to use the Liki Tiki pools. I'd heard that before and wondered if that would make a stay at Orbit One a good deal...have you been to the Liki Tiki pools?

No, I've never been to Liki Tiki. I just remember about people posting about it here. If you stay at any of the Island One properties, you cna use the Liki Tiki facilities. All the properties are listed on the Island One website.

EDIT: after all this hurricane craziness, I think from now on when I do SkyAuction I may pay for the travel insurance :).

straitlover,

I agree with you about the trip insurance...I'll have to check that out for next time. And yes, this hurricane business has definitely been crazy!
