Since we're total newbies to Europe, we're letting ABD do all the heavy lifting for us and doing the Barcelona pre-stay for our 8/22/2015 Med Cruise, so please put us on the roll call. I think the official dates of the pre-stay are 8/19-22/2015.

Just got back from 2 weeks in Spain, including 4 days in Barcelona. If you can I'd recommend getting tickets for the night show at Casa Mila (aka La Pedrera). It is a great music and light show on the roof of one of Gaudi's major architectural designs. It starts at 10:15 pm, and easy enough to pre-book tickets on-line. Also, if there is free time, it would be worthwhile to go into Casa Batllo, another Gaudi Design. Not sure if the ABD does this, but both are absolutely worth it.

We did the Barcelona pre cruise ABD in 2014 with Dusty and James. Loved it. There's no way, with a 15 and 7 year old in tow, that we could have done half of what the ABD did for us. The trip to Monserrat was especially worth it. Orr decision came down to the following:

1. We knew nothing of Barcelona, and ABD would take care of piddly details like a decent hotel, transportation from the airport, transportation to the ship, etc . . .
2. We wouldn't be likely to get stuck somewhere bad or boring, whether at a hotel, restaurant or attraction.
3. We would have a group of friends ready-made before getting on the ship.
4. Barcelona was too great of a city to do a lousy job of it.
5. We opted not to do the on ship ABD, so this was a nice add on that wouldn't break the budget.

Basically, once you pay for flights and the cruise itself, we decided to splurge on this one luxury to make the most of the trip. Well worth it.

I agree that Barcelona is very easy to navigate on your own. Also, cabs are very reasonably priced and safe.
