Baordwalk...what's there to do there...

What is there at the boardwalk (shopping, etc...) We plan to go to Mk in the a.m. then hop to either Epcot or MGM for a little while then go to the boardwalk to eat dinner around 5 at ESPN club. What is there to do there after we eat and can we get back to our resort ASMu from there or do we have to go back to Epcot and catch a bus? How late can you stay at the boardwalk before there isn't anymore trans out? Can you see MGM's or Epcots fireworks/lighting shows from the boardwalk? This will be our first day in Disney we are planning on getting there at 7am and checking in and then starting our adventures....this is our first family trip and DH and I haven't been since 1992, just trying to get all the info I can so we don't waste time on buses etc...

Unfortunately you can not get a direct bus from any Disney Resort hotel to another. You would either have to go back to Epcot and catch a bus, catch a cab from the Boardwalk or if you wanted to stay a bit after Epcot closes and did not want to take a cab you could catch a bus to Downtown Disney and transfer there to an ASMu bus, this option would take about an hour though. The first time I went to the Boardwalk I took a cab back to WL because I was too tired to deal with the other options and at the time it was worth every penny.I do not recall the exact cost but it was somewhere in the ten dollar range.

The boardwalk area is situated around a large lake (I believe it's Crescent Lake). On the Boardwalk Inn side you have the resort and a lot of different shops and restaurants, inlcuding ESPN which is the last builiding on the walk (this walk continues on to Epcot). There are also a couple of places for entertainment like Jellyrolls on the other side of the Boardwalk Inn. From this side of the walk you can go left and continue walking to the Disney Studios or go over the bridge to the Swan/Dolphin and the Yacht/Beach club resorts.
The boardwalk side has nightly entertainment like jugglers (we saw a husband and wife team last month and they were great).
There are a lot of great places to eat in this area. Go over to allearsnet.com and check out the dining options for all these Epcot area resorts.
As previously stated, you have to go back to one of the open parks to catch at bus back to your resort (or DTD). You can boat or walk to either Epcot or the Studios if they are still open. You can walk through any of these resorts and you will find their bus station for buses to DTD, MK or AK (assuming MK and AK are still open or have an EMH night). You can easily catch a taxi outside any of these resorts. Taxis are normally waiting outside all WDW resorts. If one is not waiting a Cast Member will get one for you right away.

For general walking and eating, the Boardwalk area is great. But you won't mistake it for Wildwood, Ocean City, or Atlantic City.
