Hi all,

I just bought into BLT last week. I have 160 points right now (from the purchase) but can't use until August 4th.
I'm not planning a trip this year, so I have to bank by August 31st.
I get new points in Feb, so come Feb, I will have 320.
2 questions:
If I don't plan a trip until 2011, can I bank those 320?
Also, if I was going to take a trip in let's say September of 2010, and needed 140 points, would I bank 20, and leave out 140?

When looking at the cruises, I see this in fine print:
"Members cannot book and travel on The Disney
Collection vacations (excluding Disneyland®
Resort hotels in California) within the last 4
months of their Use Year.
· A non-refundable $95 transaction fee applies
per confirmed The Disney Collection reservation
(excluding Disneyland Resort hotels in
California). If payment is not received at the
time of confirmation, Disney Vacation Club
reserves the right to cancel the reservation."

1. Do we have to pay $95 every time we book something? Also, what does the first paragraph mean? If I get my points in Feb, what would my use year be? Does this mean I can't have a reservation for a certain time, or I just can't book things at a certain time?

Sorry for all of the newbie questions!!!!

Points may only be banked once and then if they are not used in the next UY year they were banked into they will expire. In your case, with a Feb. UY your 2009 points that you are planning on banking will be available for use from Feb 1 2010 to Jan 31 2011 and then that's it. You would be able to bank your 160 points from 2010 into 2011 though.

And yes - you don't have to use use all your points and are allowed to use some and bank others, however it's still the same one time banking rule. If you were looking at using your banked 2009 points for a Sept 2010 ressie you still would need to use the other 20 by Jan 31, 2011 or they would expire.

If you are booking at a DVC resort, or at a DisneyLAND resort (which will be only DLH and PP after 12/31/09) you may book at anytime and do not pay a $95 booking fee. If for example you wanted to book at the Grand Floridian you would need to pay a $95 fee and with a Feb UY you would need to book that reservation by Sept 30 if you are using current UY points. However your stay can be anytime in your UY - it's just a limitation to when you can book. Also, be aware that anytime you make a change to a reservation that is outside of a DVC resort or DL hotel you will need to pay the $95 fee again.

you can bank one time. so the pts you bank this year will expire at the end of the next UY if you don't use them and they are gone forever.

but you would be able to bank the 160 pts from next year into the year after that.

(also, if you have a feb UY, you can bank up until the end of sept.)

Also, if I was going to take a trip in let's say September of 2010, and needed 140 points, would I bank 20, and leave out 140?

if you decide to take a trip in sept 2010 that takes all of your banked points plus 140, then yes, you can call and bank 20 pts from your 2010 UY as late as sept 30, 2010. if you bank too many, you could borrow any needed pts from the 2011 UY (but if you cancel the reservation, the borrowed 2011 pts will stay in the 2010 UY and expire at the end of the 2010 UY.)

This is probably a stupid question, but what is happening to the GC being a Disneyland Resort. Is it just because it will have villas then?

yes. DVC members can't stay on points at any of the wdw resorts (like BWI) which have a DVC wing. that should hold true at DLR as well.

Yes, that is correct. At all resorts where DVC has been added the option to use points for hotel rooms has been eliminated. The same thing happened earlier this year for the Contemporary.

So, the last four months of my use year would be October-Jan (since it starts in Feb)? Does that mean I can't book anything or take a cruise (or stay at a non-DVC resort) during that time period, unless it is one of the DVC resorts (such as BLT, AK, etc)?

...(snip)......

Congratulations on your purchase!

Just a few words about banking deadlines:

The banking deadline is the end of the 8th month following your use year month.

The banking deadline for February use years is the following September 30.

So since you have a February use year, your banking deadline is September 30 (not August 31).

Not exactly - The "rule of 4" is just about when you can actually make a reservation - not about when you can stay. It means that you can't call MS and make the reservation during those last 4 months to use expiring points at anything other than a DVC resort (AKV, OKW, BWV etc.) or at a DL resort. You can call right up to the end of your UY to reserve a DVC room - for example you could call Jan 29th for a stay on Jan 30-31st if available.

You are able to call prior to the last 4 months (in your case, up until Sept 30th) and book a stay for Oct-Jan outside of the DVC resorts.

Great! Thanks all!!
Sorry for the questions...I just got a little confused.

If you have a February UY, then you can bank 100% of your points (160) by September 30, not August 31.

You cannot bank previously banked points, so no, you could not bank 320 points. The maximum amount of points you can bank per year in your case is 160. Any banked points must be used in the following UY or you will lose them.

You do not have to bank all of your points, so you can use the 140 and bank the 20 as long as those 20 are not banked points already.
