Sorry if this is in the wrong forum! We are in the process of purchasing points on the resale market - just waiting for Disney ROFR.
We are purchasing a September UY with 152 points from 2013 and a full 160 points this September 2014. The broker advised us to bank those 152 points as soon as we close so we don't loose them.
My question is - when do those points have to be used by? We are trying to plan a trip to California for May 2015 - will be able to use those banked points for the trip or do they need to be used by September 2014?
Thank you! We are still getting our feet wet with all the details on being (hopefully) new DVC members!

If you bank points from your Sept 2013 UY (which would be your current UY), they will then be valid for stays from 9/1/2014 through 8/31/2015.

Thank you so much! That is a huge weight off my mind! Now we just have to work on actually getting the room we want!

We are in a similar situation - 175 points with an Aug UY (already cleared ROFR) - we have 93 points in 2013 - we have to bank them before 1 Apr or we would need to use them before 31 July.

So we plan on banking the 93 - giving us a total of 268 points to use in the period 1 Aug 14 - 31 Jul 15. If we want to do anything before 1 Aug 14 we will just borrow 2014 points.

I have a dumb question - we are new to owning DVC points. We bought a contract through resale and it had carry over points plus the 160 we will get on March 1. We have booked two villas using the carry over points and will be using some of the 160 for another trip. How do you bank your points to carry them over. Do I have to call or can it be done online. Thanks for any help.

To be sure we answer your question right, could you post how many points you had that were banked ( you said carryover) and how many you are using for your trips and when they are?

Banking can be done online or by phone, but you wouldn't need to do it for those March 1 points for a long time from now.

You may need some more education on when points can be used, when they need to be banked/ borrowed, etc.

We had 147 banked points and have used all of them for upcoming trips. We will get the 160 on March 1 and will use some of them for a trip in Jan for marathon weekend. We will have about 30 points left at that point and will want to bank them for another year. When we bank these points how long do we have to use them. I don't think it will ever be a problem with coming close to losing them since aren't they always the first points that would be used. thanks for the help.

The 160 points you are getting on March 1, 2014 are in your 2014 use year. They are good for trips from Mnrch 1, 2014 to February 28, 2015. No banking required for trips between those dates.

The banked points you got with your contract purchase were either 2013 points (good for trips from 3/1/13-2/28/14) that have been banked into 2014 (so good for the same dates shown in the paragraph above) OR they were 2012 points banked into 2013 (good for 3/1/13-2/28/14 once they were banked). From your postings, I still couldn't tell which was the case.

Leftover points that came from your 2014 year don't have to be banked until the end of October, 2014. Then they will be put into your 2015 use year (3/1/15-2/28/16).

Based on your answers, I still didn't really understand your situation exactly, so hopefully all that info above gives you what you need and then some. I didn't understand at all your comment about not losing them since they wouldn't be used first, but maybe I am being dense this evening!
