Let's say I had a October UY with the intent to vacation in February but due to changes we decide to vacation the following September or October instead. Is it possible to bank those points so we won't risk lossing them if the Sept/Oct plans don't materialize and then if we do decide to go in September borrow the points from October? Does that make any sense???

Thanks

Well, not sure exactly what you're asking. Keep in mind that with an October Use Year month, a vacation in September is from a different use year than a vacation in October. So when you say Sep/Oct we can't answer because it depends on whether it's September or October.

Take 2005 points. You plan a vacation in Feb 2006. That takes points from your 2005 use year which goes Oct 1, 2005 through Sep 30, 2006. If you don't take the vacation and plan to go in Sep 2006, you'd just use the points without banking at all. If you wern't sure so you wanted to bank the points you can do that. Then later borrow points from 2006 and use them for a September 2006 vacation.

A vacation in October 2006 requires 2006 points. They would have to be banked 2005 points, or regular 2006 points.

Does this help?

Yes I believe you hit the nail on the head and that was exactly what I was ondering. I guess what I was asking is if you current years points were in joepardy of lapsing you can always bank them and if it turns out you can go you can always borrow next years.

PS I downloaded your software for planning a vacation; you did a great job!!

If there is any chance that you might be travelling in September on a regular basis, you might want to think about September as your UY rather than October. Looks like CaskBill answered your question tho (dontcha just love having that planning program?)

Do you get to pick your use year? What I mean is do you get to pick the month or something?

I'll see if I can help ya on this:
The use years are
Feb
March
April
June
August
Sept.
Oct
Dec.
You'll notice there are no UY for Jan, May, July,Nov.
You can pick your UY
I'll give you an example. When I was buying in, I was very confused on what to have for a UY. She asked me when my favorite time to trval to WDW, I told her I go every year, the last week og Nov, so she recommended an Oct UY that way I would always have my points available from year to year.
Now, that being said, UY is only really important for banking/borrowing purposes as you have a certain time frame for how many points you can bank and when you bank them.
For example, with my Oct UY, if I wanted to bank all of this years points(NOPE :) ) I would have to do it by 3/31.
I hope this helps!

Keep in mind there are a couple of things to consider. Once points are banked, they cannot be banked again. So if you bank this year's points into next year, they MUST be used within the next Use Year or you will lose them. (And just in case you're wondering, banked points cannot be 'borrowed')

If you borrow points to make a reservation, and later need to cancel the reservation, the points are returned to the year into which they were borrowed and not back to their original use year. And they cannot be banked (which would effectively put them back into their original use year). So it's again a case of use them or lose them.

P.S. Glad you like the planner program. Thanks
