My understanding is that once you bank points into your next use year, you can't borrow them back again. So that means I have to bank all remaining points by March or I lose them. But then what happens if in May, Southwest has a great sale for July (still this Use Year)? I don't have any points left, but can I borrow points from next year's allotment, but not the points I banked? I just don't want to be left without points to use, just in case.

correct.

with an aug UY, yes. (assuming you can't use them by the end of july of that year...)

yep - that's the alternative. but if you borrow from the next year, they can't be put back, so be sure that's what you want to do...

edited to add: this is part of the reason we tell potential DVC owners that it is ideal to pick a UY where you rarely travel in the last 3-4 months.

Thanks so much. When we bought DVC, we didn't really understand UY. Our guide said they were selling August UY, so that's what we bought. So far (9 years)-no problem. I was just hoping that in this case, we'd have access to points.

We did not understand Use year, or at least why one could be better over another.

We have October, take June, July and August vacations so it drives me batty, especially since the change to bank 4 months out. :headache:

Even if you understood UY, DVC threw the original meaning out the window when they changed the banking window. Of all of the changes in our years of ownership, that's the one that affects us the most. :headache:

I am pretty sure our agent told us that they were only selling Aug UY when we bought. He made it sound like there was no option. Like you, we have had no problems thoough.
