Banking and Borrowing Question

I have a question regarding banking and borrowing. Here is the scenario:

1. Have a trip booked for December with June 2007 use year points.
2. Have a cruise to book for August with June 2007 points and borrowed 2008 points. (I know not best use of points but don't want to get into that discussion)

My question (which I have posed to my guide who hasn't gotten back with me) -- If something happens where I have to cancel my December 2007 trip can I bank those points or am I prohibited from banking since I borrowed points?

The December trip is on the current use year (2007) points. So since I borrowed for the cruise trip the current year use points will expire May 31, 2008?

Current use year points can be banked, but on your first post, you said you also used borrowed '08 points to make that ressie. The borrowed points will expire on May 31, 2008.

Borrowing points for your cruise doesn't preclude you from banking some/all of your 2007 UY points. With a June UY, your deadline for banking up to 100% of your points is Nov 30th. If you cancel your December trip at least 31 days in advance (to avoid your points going into the "holding" account) then you will still be within that 100% banking window so you can bank all of the '07UY points you used for that stay. If you canceled the Dec trip 30 days or less from check in, your points would go into the "holding" account and could not be banked. They would have to be used for another trip during your '07UY and you would be restricted to making that reservation no sooner than 60 days from check in.

The Op didn't ask, but for anyone who may be wondering what happens if you have to cancel a cruise -

The points used for a cancelled cruise reservation would be returned to your account as "reservation" points. That means they cannot be used to make a reservation at a DVC resort or for a trade (World Passport Collection / Interval International). They can only be used for something in the DIsney Collection (including another cruise), the Adventurer's Collection or the Conceirge Collection. Reservation points cannot be banked or borrowed and expire at the end of the use year.

If you own points at 2 different resorts can you combine points for a cruise or any other nondisney vacation?

Are there enough points in your UY for the cruise?
If the cruise comes first, you may not need to borrow points. You could wait, and borrow the points for your December trip if you need to.
Am I way off base on this?
Do you need to borrow the points just to make a reservation, so that if the ressy is cancelled, the points are already borrowed?
