Can you bank all your current years points you are adding on if your add-on happens after your banking deadline?

Where were you in the use year when your add-on's happened?

You will always get current points - regardless of the Use Year - when purchasing an add-on and DVC will usually allow you to bank those additional points, even when past the banking deadlines. It can never hurt to ask your guide to do this for you automatically as sometimes the CM at MS may balk at banking those points, but it is allowed with any direct purchase.

Enjoy that add-on! :)

We must have the worst guide available. When we last added-on, we closed in September with an October use year. Both our guide and member accounting said we could not bank the current year points, but we could use them at a non-DVC WDW resort if we could arrange a trip in the remaining 18 days or whatever. We lost those 200 points. This was in 2004. I've read numerous stories on these boards counter to what we experienced. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't go back and revisit this issue with our guide.

Just this past May, we were allowed to bank our add-on points five days before the end of the UY (we got our June UY add-on on May 26th and banked them with no problem).

I would skip the guide and start a bit higher on the totem for something like that.

I think there may have been times in the past where they did not allow banking outside of normal windows and were pretty rigid about maintaining that position. I don't know if that might have been the case in 2004 (and other times), but at this time they are allowing all direct purchases to be banked.

Perhaps that's another option to separate direct purchase from resale. :confused3

MS won't do it once you're dealing with them but it can be done on a case by case basis through your guide and as part of your closing. Just make sure it's clear and you have it set formally as part of your closing and you're not trying to scramble afterwards.

You're not alone. When we decided to join DVC last summer, we very nearly purchased directly from Disney. The only sticking point was whether or not we would be allowed to bank the current-year points since we would be closing about one month before the end of our use year. Our guide said she talked with her manager and he told her we would not be allowed to bank the points. So we checked out the resale market and found a great contract through TTS.

Based on reports here, most people are allowed to bank the points but Disney is not consistent about it so talk to your guide and get it in writing!

yes you are allowed to bank all the points for adding on even if your past your deadline. just did it yesterday

Though people have reported that they have been able to do this, on our one add on where this was an issue we were NOT allowed to do this despite multiple pleas and requests. My understanding is that this has not happened recently but it did happen to us with our second direct add on in May 2003, which was the only add on where our banking deadline came into play.

Why is this not outlined somewhere in writing? Is it simply a sales tool that they can implement when they see fit? I'm guessing it's written on the same stone as the refillable mug policy* ;)

*The above was in no terms any intention of starting any discussion in any way for, on, in, near or around anything determined to be mug (refillable or non-refillable) policy related. Any attempt to infer such a relationship to said policy will be met with a wet-willy or other unwanted hazing ritual. Thank you

The only thing outlined in writing is the policy regarding banking deadlines and apparently MS uses that as the standard unless there is some directive from DVD (thru the guides) that banking is allowed at this specific time. I'd look at it as a sales tool and nothing more.

As for the refillable mugs, are you sure the threat of a wet-willy is enough of a deterent? :smooth:

I have a few other tricks up my sleeve just in case ;)

Some have not been allowed to bank in this situation so it's not universal. Maybe they use it as a sales tactic.

when you call your guide ask your guide if you can bank your points, the points will be in the system the next day. than call and bank your points if you cant than dont sign the paperwork.
but right now you are able to bank the points even if your outside the banking window
