Noticed there are some bands plying at Epcot during the FW Festival. Does anyone watch or listen to the bands and can you tell me more about the experience.

We caught them and just watched/listened standing behind the seats-which are usually packed.
Eddie Money was beyond great one year
Caught many oldies bands...herman Hermits....38 Special-great

David Cassidy was either drunk or high-he was TERRIBLE!!!

Saw Starship in 1983 at a different theme park. It was fun, especially the crowd reaction when Grace Slick tried to convince the crowd they should vote for Walter Mondale.

It's probably a different experience now. :p

Saw Airplane in 1971 and they were awesome. Saw Starship last year at F&W and had a great time. Actually saw them twice at F&W

Funny how different the 1971, 1983 and 2013 bands we saw were. :hippie: I'm not sure any musical group has gone through more bizarre transitions.

A friend of mine calls bands like this "Old guys making too much money to quit!"

Saw Starship Featuring Mickey Thomas several times at Epcot over the years. Always a good show, though like all the shows there, quite short, maybe 30-40 minutes.

Certainly not like its roots, Jefferson Airplane, along with all its various iterations over the years, but nostalgically good. We saw Paul Kantner and his current Jefferson Starship here locally at a very intimate 350 seat venue. Very good show.

We saw Big Bad VooDoo Daddy last year while waiting on a Biergarten res - they were great. There weren't a ton of people there, but they had a great energy. We love that sort of music anyway, so it was a nice bonus. We're going back the same week this year, and hoping to catch them again.

I kid you not, mere moments before I clicked this thread, I started listening to my Jefferson Airplane, Jerfferson Starship, Starship playlist. :cool1: I have seen a few incarnations of them tour and enjoyed them all. The fav being the tour with Grace Slick and Mickey Thompson.

I have seen a few Eat to the Beat concerts, Sugar Ray and 38 Special were good. I have no clue who the dude is that is going to be there when I go this year. I cannot even remember his name. I know Los Lonely Boys will be there the second day I will be at Epcot. I only know a couple of their songs though, I'm not going to make a special effort to see them, because that is my half day. Anyway, the concerts have been fun when I have seen them, but I love live music and going to see bands play, and where I live now, I don't get much of that.

The shows are short but can be great or not so great depending on the bands...I have seen Starship 2x and will see them again in another week-they are always good
Sugar Ray puts on an amazing show. The Go-Gos were disappointing last year. Since it is a short/free show worth checking out whoever is there when you visit.

The Eat to the Beat concerts are really one of our favorite things about Food and Wine! We have seen Chubby Checker (yes, we did the Twist!), David Cassidy (I don't think he was drunk when we saw him, he was great!), Richard Marx ( <3), Survivor (my favorite so far), and last year Smash Mouth (so much fun) and Spin Doctors (the only disappointing act for us so far!)

We have never had horrible crowds, and really just enjoy sitting outside and enjoying the show. :) 42 more days to go!!!!! This year we get 38 Special and Boys 2 Men!!!

Wish the beach boys were still at food and wine, it's been about 7 years since they have been there...always a great show...and packed.

Sounds like you'll be there the same time as us...I think the "dude" is Jim Brickman. Sounds a little too mellow for us, but we'll give it a go. I'm not sure about Los Lonely Boys or Wilson Philips, but know we'll enjoy Denis Deyoung from Styx. Have enjoyed Starship, 38 Special and Smash Mouth multiple times though.

We were last there 5 years ago and I sat through a downpour watching Johnny Lang. It was totally worth it! if someone is playing the music you like its definitely a good time.:thumbsup2

Chubby Checkers is a local celebrity for us. I pass his home every night on my commute home as he only lives a mile from me. My only run in has been at Wawa but others have said that he is a genuinely nice man.

As to the concerts, our favorite has been Dennis DeYoung of Styx but are looking forward to Sugar Ray.

Yeah, that's it. I had looked Brickman up on iTunes, and nothing from him sounded remotely familiar. I like Los Lonely Boy's song, Heaven. I saw Wilson Phillips back in '88 or so, and they were good. Good harmonies. I would like to see Denis Deyoung. Have seen Styx many times, best time was when they played with Kansas, great concert.

We saw Starship twice in the last couple of years. If you enjoy that band, you should enjoy the show. Mickey Thomas can still sing like he was 30 years younger and the lady he has singing with him does a great job on the Grace Slick parts. They play a little bit of everything going back to some of the very old classics from the Airplane years to some of the horrible hits from the mid to later 80s. I think he almost always throws in that Elvin Bishop song "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" because he was the singer on that song and it's a crowd favorite. Have fun, they do a great show!

We saw Blake Shelton for an Eat to the Beat concert back in 2004, it was a pretty good show. We plan to see Air Supply this year.
