Wow, that's a lot of people for a guard!! At our school, hardly anyone knows what a guard even is!! When i started freshman year there were only 13 people TOTAL!! and only a few switched between flag & Rifle... the next year we had about 20 total and now i have no idea!! as i said, i haven't been in it for 2 years!! I miss it tons, but i just don't have the time to do it

The thing is, once we got the nazi guard leaders out of the way and we had the guard people who CARED about the show, they got tons better! They had more people, better uniforms, better work... everything!! and wouldn't you know it, that all happened the year after i left!! Right now they have, i'm guessing, about 25-30 people, and this year they have flags, rifles and awesome saber work!
My Freshman year our theme had something to do with water... thus our uniforms were that tight velvety material - some had light blue, some had dark... and that was basically a tank top and leggings, then we had a "skirt" which was just two pieces of chiffon in front and in back... We had "Magical Poles" aka 10 foot 2" PVC pipes spray painted silver with holes cut in them, and then we stuffed blue chain flags in the hole (Chain Flags Rule!!) In the show we carried the giant poles around and did random stuff with them and then we set the pole on the ground and pulled the flags out of the hole and did cool stuff incorporating the pole & the flag... He He, good times
My Sophmore year our theme was "seasons" we had these HIDEOUS one piece pure white uniforms - it was like a tank top and then the legs flared out and we had these UGLY irredescent jackets to go over it... blah... that year we had a HORRIBLE instuctor who changed the work every week - i got sick for a week and missed a couple practices, i ended up having to do just the 1st song, then sit on the front sidelines for the rest of the show, then go out and do the last 12 counts of the closing song... It was very frustrating... and that show just sucked all together.
I didn't get the chance to see them last year, i worked every night they had practices and competitons... BUt they had really cool uniforms! They had the tight black leggings and a black long sleeved shirt... over those was a tight grey one'sleeved shirt that went down below the waist - it was awesome

They had props called "Thing-a-ma-Jigs" which were basically shiny silver "X"es
This year the theme has to do with mexican music... i only had the chance to see them at band camp... and it was pretty good - apparently they have the flags, rifles, SABERS and they have capes (similar to chain flags)...
Yeah, those were the days, right?? My sophmore year our marching band got to go down and play at DISNEY during spring break!! It was SOOO much fun, we got to go "behind the scences" at Magic Kingdom (that's where our parade was) at MGM (guard had a workshop behind the Fantasmic mountain with a professional Disney coreographer) and Epcot (The band had a workshop there - underneath the loop that Test Track goes on)
SO yeah!! i don't quite know what else to say!! Guard Rocks!!
