Band Director Vent

I first have to admit that my DD's band director drives me crazy. She is very disorganized and very young but she keeps doing things to make life very difficult. My DD made the Junior High All District Honor Band. It is a very big honor esp. because she's a 7th grader and the only one from her band to make the Honor Band. When she tried out for this we knew when the performance was and I assume that her Director did also. We were told that they changed the date of the winter concert because of it. So what did she do. My DD has practice for the Honor Band from 12-5 with the concert at 5p.m. The school concert is at 7p.m. across town. The director thinks that she can leave the other concert and make it to the school concert. This can not be done. Will not be done. Not going to do it.

I'm sorry but I am on my last straw with this women. This fall they had a concert at a local bookstore and my DD got her music the day before. No wonder they sounded so bad. She is only in the 7th grade.

Sorry for the vent, I feel better now

What is it with these band teachers? Every band teacher my DD has had since 4th grade has been terribly disorganized. If she didn't do so well with it and enjoy it so much, I'd have to discourage her from being in it. She starts high school next year and I'm hoping the band director there has it together more than all the rest have.

Tell your DD to keep her chin up, and tell her she's not alone. And you keep your chin up too. :D

I'm not a music teacher, but there are quite a few in the bands I play in and for the most part, they are pretty organized. There may be one or two that aren't, but most are.

Luckily, this band teacher won't be your daughter's last. This too will pass.

On a side note, I've always had organized band conductors. Guess I'm lucky.

My dd's band director is also disorganized. DD has practice before school 2x a week which means I have to get her to school at 7:20(5th grade). He sometimes cancels the practice with no notice (there is a note on the door from him when the kids go to the HS for practice). They then have to walk back to the Middle school and wait outside since they are 1/2hr early for school. The kids were just told today about a concert they have next Tuesday night( I work at night). She loves to play the flute though so what can I do? Nothing but grin and bear it.
