I'm surprised at some people saying they would sit on the sand and not a chair if one was available if they were not a guest at the Poly. If, I read the posts correctly. Until Disney says I couldn't sit there, I would not feel guilty at all using a chair or hammock as a non-Poly guest.
Breaking rules is one thing but if there are no rules about using the chairs, etc on the beach what is the issue? Why would anyone feel guilty?
Part of the enjoyment of going to Disney is visiting other resorts for dinner, the atmosphere, etc. If the hotels are roped off for things other than the pools, that takes away from the overall feel of each resort. You would be asking for a lot of problems from guests trying to play police telling other people to move, etc.
I've stayed at the Poly twice but never went to watch fireworks on the beach when not a guest. But, if I wanted to, it would be nice to know that I could.
I agree - its a slippery slope - if you can't go to the Poly for the fireworks (and a drink or not) then you shouldn't be able to go the Boardwalk for the entertainment (and I have seen the Boardwalk way more crowded than the Poly on a regular night)... afte rall that is right there in front of the hotel, then no monorail resort hopping at the holidays because the GF Ginerbread house and all the entertainment/chairs/couches in the lobby should just be for those resort guests...line up against the wall if you are waiting for 1900. Going to Boma for dinner...no sitting by the fire or checking the animal walkways. What about Wilderness Lodge and going over there for their Hidden Mickey hunt - that is just for resort guests there too and no peeking at the geiser. No looking at the horses at Fort Wilderness, etc and so forth.
