This is a fascinating topic! Yes, I know, it has been done a hundred times (or at least 10), but this one seems different. I feel in this thread, there are more folks saying they don't necessarily think it's such a bad idea, and even agreeing with the thought of some kind of restricted access. At least that's the impression I got from the first page, then the debate got really going. This thread has also not gotten as heated as some I have read, and that is nice to see. I like when folks can state their opinion without jamming same down the throats of others. We can all agree to disagree if necessary.
Throwing my two cents in, having stayed at Poly the past 4 years in a row, we do find crowds to be VERY large during the fireworks. We typically travel from August to September, with a late Nov thrown in for kicks. That said, it is very frustrating, as a guest of that resort, to find hundreds (yes, hundreds) of folks scattered all over the lawn, beach and walkways. Folks take chairs from the pool area and place them right on the walkways to watch the fireworks, and there are literally no lounge chairs on the beach to be had. It is very frustrating.
For that person (sorry not to mention by name) who said something to the effect of why don't people just go to the park and watch the fireworks, I don't know!

That does not make sense to me.
Sometimes we do stay at the park to watch. There are days that we have done something else that day, and like to come back to the resort, relax on the beach, and watch the fireworks. Unfortunately, it is sometimes very difficult to do so, due to those that want to watch from somewhere other than the park, and choose a resort where they are not staying to watch.
This year we are staying at CSR for the first time. That said, we will not go to Poly to watch the fireworks from the beach. It would not occur to me to do that. That is not the resort where we are staying. If I want to watch the fireworks, we will do so from the park.
In summary, I guess I do have a problem, when I am staying at Poly, with the beach/pool/walkways/lawns being packed with folks and not being able to find a place to watch for my family and myself. And for the record, it is not just 4 or 5 days a year. As I said, we typically travel in September or August, and those 4 or 5 days mentioned do not fall into those months. And the crowds are there frequently.
Maybe a "crowd" means different things to different people.
