Ban Non-Resort Guests from Poly/GF/CR for Wishes!!!

I'm surprised at some people saying they would sit on the sand and not a chair if one was available if they were not a guest at the Poly. If, I read the posts correctly. Until Disney says I couldn't sit there, I would not feel guilty at all using a chair or hammock as a non-Poly guest.

Breaking rules is one thing but if there are no rules about using the chairs, etc on the beach what is the issue? Why would anyone feel guilty?

Part of the enjoyment of going to Disney is visiting other resorts for dinner, the atmosphere, etc. If the hotels are roped off for things other than the pools, that takes away from the overall feel of each resort. You would be asking for a lot of problems from guests trying to play police telling other people to move, etc.

I've stayed at the Poly twice but never went to watch fireworks on the beach when not a guest. But, if I wanted to, it would be nice to know that I could.

I agree - its a slippery slope - if you can't go to the Poly for the fireworks (and a drink or not) then you shouldn't be able to go the Boardwalk for the entertainment (and I have seen the Boardwalk way more crowded than the Poly on a regular night)... afte rall that is right there in front of the hotel, then no monorail resort hopping at the holidays because the GF Ginerbread house and all the entertainment/chairs/couches in the lobby should just be for those resort guests...line up against the wall if you are waiting for 1900. Going to Boma for dinner...no sitting by the fire or checking the animal walkways. What about Wilderness Lodge and going over there for their Hidden Mickey hunt - that is just for resort guests there too and no peeking at the geiser. No looking at the horses at Fort Wilderness, etc and so forth.

Personally, I don't think it should be restricted to only guests of that particular resort. We stayed at the GF our last trip and we were in the parks each night for the fireworks, so we didn't even take advantage of being on the beach at our resort. We did watch one night from our balcony. :thumbsup2

I think it's great that they restrict the pools, but the beach is the beach. Now, I'm against anyone who is going to walk up and grab the patio chairs off someone else's patio so they can move them to the beach to watch wishes. That's beyond tacky. But just sitting down or grabbing a hammock? I think everyone kind of needs to lighten up a little on that one. :rolleyes1

If you're paying for the Poly, do you then want to be told you can't go to Narcoosee's to watch Wishes? Of course not. Or you're staying at the GF but can't watch Wishes from the Contemporary? Of course not. So what's the difference if someone from Pop comes? Or POR? There is no difference. :flower3:

I think everyone is just trying to make the best vacation for their family that they can. We all want a little magic... and it's not a big deal to share it. :lovestruc

Nope, many of them are watching from their lagoon view rooms. Or their own patios unless someone else has stolen the chairs from their patio.

If you read the resorts board much, you'll see lots of people suggesting to watch the fireworks from the Polynesian. Parking at the Polynesian to go the MK so they can get out of the parking area more easily after the MK closes. You read it on this thread from posters saying they watch the fireworks from the Polynesian and don't stay there.

I'd give the diners at the Polynesian restaurants a bye on this. They've spent money at the resort.

This thread isn't about people parking at the Poly in order to visit the MK.

This thread is about non-resort guests watching the fireworks from the Poly beach which is NOT against any Disney policies or rules.

Ah, so nice of you to give the Poly diners a bye. Sounds like you'd be happy if non-resort guests were not allowed to visit the property unless they spend money there.

Hmm. How many rooms actually give a view of Wishes? A wild guess would be 25%? Also Poly rooms potentially hold five so I was estimating about a thousand guests lower than is possible. Of course you would have to account for guests back at the resort and the time of year. But still, I stand behind my statement that most guests out there are more than likely Poly guests.

True, I don't post on the Resorts board much but I do read them. Yes, there are quite a few posts on the subject of parking at the Resorts and watching the fireworks from the beach. But as has been discussed previously, these boards are a tiny representative of the guest population. An anomaly that doesn't particularly represent your average visitor.

One gigantic reason we wont stay at the Poly again. There was a family who had taken several lounge chairs (more than 15) and one of the little girls with them said "mommy, I dont want to go back to our hotel anymore. I want to stay here". This while my mom, 2 kids and I sat on the ground to watch Wishes.

Visit the resort all you want. Stay for Wishes. But when paying guests can't find a place to sit because non resort guests are taking over, it gets frustrating.

I bet most people who sit in those chairs don't see it as such a big deal. It is just a chair! Most people probably don't think they are reserved for resort guests only, and in fact they are not.

I've stayed at the Poly, and I plunked my rear down on the sand without a second though. I never gave one thought to who was sitting in the chairs, and what resort they came from. It is just a chair! I didn't feel entitled to one because I had a room at the Poly, or above sitting on the sand because I was staying at the Poly. It never crossed my mind to even wonder
about it.

It never ceases to amaze me the things people get wound up about. A chair.

Plus there are so few chairs (well there are alot but not nearly enough) that not every Poly guest could have one if they wanted...not even a fourth of them could.

So every Polynesian resort guest is at the resort every night at 8, 9, 10 for the MK fireworks? I seriously doubt it. Some may be at Epcot, some may be at the MK, some may be at DTD, some may be at DHS. And if they saw them last night, are they watching them again tonight? But the two or three hundred who might be watching from the beach area should have priority seating rights for the chairs and hammocks.

This question: to those who head to the Polynesian to watch the fireworks. Where are you staying when you do this?

Of course not, that's just silly. I just realized when you quoted my post my text should have read "you have to account for guests not back at the resort." Thanks for making me aware of my mistake.

I feel strongly about my statement though. The majority on the beach are more than likely Poly guests. In regards to a PP, no one should ever "borrow" another guest's chairs, that is simply inconsiderate. However just as in the example of the EMH, as long as Disney, or TA's or whomever promotes this as a perk, the situation will stay static until a tipping point is reached.

First I think its interesting to note that I have stayed at the Poly somewhere between 30-40 nights and I have never watched them from the beach, the pool, the sidewalk or the grass while staying there. I have only watched them from my balcony or the concierge lounge. When I am staying at the Poly I try to be in my room to watch them probably more than half the nights...just love it from the balcony. One week when I brought a 4 & 6 year old with me I watched them every night from the balcony after the kids went to sleep with a glass of wine and some snacks...heavenly.

Other times I have been staying at All Stars, Saratoga Springs, Animal Kingdom Lodge Beach Club Villas,Port Orleans and most recently the condo I now have in the area. I have left the MK to come over for the fireworks and then gone back to the MK and I have left events at the GF to come to the Poly for the fireworks. My behavior spans years and years.

I never said they were reserved for just guests. I know they are not. My point is, there are certain things you look forward to doing when you stay at the Poly....watching Wishes on the beach is one. Just step out your door and there you are. When you pay all that money to stay there, you want to expect you can do that. When you have one family of 15 or more who aren't even staying there taking chairs and you are sitting in cold wet sand, it's a little frustrating. The beach was always crowded, so were the common areas.

We had never watched Wishes from the beach at the Poly until we stayed there. I guess to me, if I'm not staying there, it shouldn't be something I take away from their guests.

But you aren't taking it away...there is plenty of room for everyone. Even on the busiest night I have been there and like I said I pretty much hit all the 4ths and NYE's; I have never seen it so busy that there isn't room. I have also noticed people walking up at just a couple of minutes before show time and getting what I consider great spots. Now granted if you want the spot right out of the pool in might be a problem but I can live without those crowds plus its too light there...there are plenty of spaces along the property for those who want to view.

I have to admit that I have watched Wishes from the Poly beach dreaming of the day that I could actually stay there. And finally, the day arrived! Don't get me wrong, I loved my stay at the Poly, but this is the reason that it's not my favorite resort. Too many non-resort guests crowding the lobby and the beach. I'll just save my money, stay somewhere else, and watch Wishes from MK.

I'm torn on how I feel about the beach thing, but what exactly is wrong with people "crowding the lobby"? What does that mean?

There are a ton of people hanging out by Tambu to wait for Ohana, but you will find that at any hotel that has a good restaurant.

okay it has been a while since been on the Polyn beach - go to CR to see the fireworks and generally staying at BLT - so TOW is my choice to see the frieworks.

now then Disney did have a sign on the beach - saying it was for only Polyn resort guests - did they take down the sign?

will be there in sept and will look for that silly sign.

the only time that I remember the security guards - it was sg and not cm from the Polyn - looking at your ID (key) - was on July 4. that is the only time seem them. now they did get some people not staying at Disney - staying offsite - they asked them to leave - or they would be charged with trespassing. to my knowledge (now did not watch them the entire time - but the fireworks ) they did not bother guests staying at a WDW resort at all???

I've stayed at both Polynesian and Contemporary. I have no problem with the idea of "other" people clogging the area to watch Wishes. Then again, I live in a beach resort town where I pay exorbitant property taxes to maintain our beaches and boardwalk only to have "other" people maddeningly clog up the beaches and boardwalk and city streets. So I guess I'm just used to it.

Why do you ask? Not sure why it makes a difference since no matter where a guest is staying, it if perfectly acceptable for them to watch fireworks from the Poly beach.

Priority seating rights? Oh for Pete's sake, that sounds utterly ridiculous.

I just had to LOL when I saw the title of this thread. :rotfl:

Disney counts on people going to these resorts, even though they are staying elsewhere, to fill the restaurants and buy stuff in the shops. No way would they do anything to limit guest access.

If you're unhappy about the situation at the Poly for these fireworks shows, complain to the management of the hotel in question.

Arguing and getting all bent out of shape with strangers on the internet won't solve a darned thing. If anything, everyone is just getting even more entrenched in their respective viewpoints.
