After an especially good business year in 2016, my wife and I decided that the time was right for us to buy in to DVC. We debated on how we were going to go about it, and finally decided that we would buy resale at our favorite resort to take advantage of the booking window. We have stayed at BLT in the past by renting points through David's, and fell in love with it. To us, the walking path to MK trumps any deficiencies in theming, or anything else. We found 50 points up for sale, so we put in an offer with the idea that we would buy some more points direct from Disney to get to the 90-100 points that we eventually want. We found out that these small point contracts are in pretty high demand and had some back and forth with the seller, but we finally agreed on a price everybody was happy with and our contract was sent off to Disney on 3/10. Last night, we got the email that we have passed the dreaded ROFR!
So far, this has been a really smooth process. Assuming the closing goes off without a hitch, we can't complain about anything. If fact, after doing some more research, we are leaning toward buying the rest of our points resale, and skipping a direct from Disney purchase all together. We don't go for enough days every year to justify buying annual passes, and frankly the other perks of buying direct don't offset the big savings you get by buying resale.
Thanks to all of you who post on this board. We spent many hours reading as much as we could before we decided to go for it. Reading about your experiences was a big help for us newbies trying to decode the mysterious world of DVC.
