After an especially good business year in 2016, my wife and I decided that the time was right for us to buy in to DVC. We debated on how we were going to go about it, and finally decided that we would buy resale at our favorite resort to take advantage of the booking window. We have stayed at BLT in the past by renting points through David's, and fell in love with it. To us, the walking path to MK trumps any deficiencies in theming, or anything else. We found 50 points up for sale, so we put in an offer with the idea that we would buy some more points direct from Disney to get to the 90-100 points that we eventually want. We found out that these small point contracts are in pretty high demand and had some back and forth with the seller, but we finally agreed on a price everybody was happy with and our contract was sent off to Disney on 3/10. Last night, we got the email that we have passed the dreaded ROFR!

So far, this has been a really smooth process. Assuming the closing goes off without a hitch, we can't complain about anything. If fact, after doing some more research, we are leaning toward buying the rest of our points resale, and skipping a direct from Disney purchase all together. We don't go for enough days every year to justify buying annual passes, and frankly the other perks of buying direct don't offset the big savings you get by buying resale.

Thanks to all of you who post on this board. We spent many hours reading as much as we could before we decided to go for it. Reading about your experiences was a big help for us newbies trying to decode the mysterious world of DVC.

Congratulations! I am going back and forth regarding buying half points at Bay lake and half AKV.... I was buying 300 at akv only but it was taken by rofr, so congrats on passing.. the walk to MK is why I am so torn.... my son is 9 next month, but we still love MK.... but I keep telling myself it would be easier to own just on resort vs. 2... pretty set on AKV... anyway, just wanted to say congratulations!! so exciting.

Congratulations! So Disney can expedite the ROFR process if they want to, they just choose not to. :sad2:

:earsboy: Bill

A lot of contracts seem to be passing ROFR around the 10 day mark right now. Estoppel seems to be backed up from what I've been told though

Thanks guys. We were prepared to wait it out for a month, so it was a great surprise when my wife got the email. I was in the shower and I heard her squeal from the bedroom.

I passed in the just about the same amount of time (9 days). Now I'm just waiting for the next step in the process.

I used one of the more popular resellers... and my congratulatory email says "You will also be sent an email from your associate within the next 7 days regarding this waiver and who to email if you have any questions or concerns." and guess what?

It's day 6. I guess I'm more patient then I expected to be since passing ROFR was so quick.

A few weeks ago I never heard of estoppel, and now I'm a victim of it.....lol. Hopefully we will get another pleasant surprise and it won't take as long as some of the horror stories we've been hearing. Pandora is calling us!

Joining you in the same boat! Hope we can be as patient as well....
D-trick, we used the same broker so I'll be interested to hear how it goes; when we made our offer, the agent I was talking to was on vacation, so I spoke to someone else who handled everything very quickly.

We just got a pretty detailed email from the associate as to timeline and all the next steps, the morning after finding out we passed ROFR. If you haven't heard from them, I'd suggest sending an email asking if you "missed" the email setting out the next steps... Hope this helps!

Thanks for watching out =D! I received my email with my timeline Tuesday night. My estimated date of receiving my final documents is "around 4/14." o_O My estimate to close is 4/28.

I'm looking to make my first reservation WDW Marathon weekend, so since I know everything should be completed before my target June 2nd date (my 7 month mark), I can relax from here on out!

I'm watching this closely! I just signed the contract yesterday and am really hoping it will go to ROFR today, but I suppose it might be pushed out to Monday... In any case, we're hoping for a January trip so I'm worried we'll cut it close with being able to book before a June booking date. Let us know how long each step of the next process takes! and CONGRATS!

Mine was fast too - signed and sent the paperwork on March 16. Got back the info that it passed Disney's ROFR on March 24th.

It's only 35 points add on to what we already own but since I was paying cash, I didn't want to add on more points than I could afford at this time. Just waiting on the email from the sales associate with the final details now.

Just wait, just wait. :)

Actually. If you go every year, an annual pass can be used so long as you bump your next vacation up by a week.

For example, vacation February 1-8 in 2018...then vacation Jan 24-31 in 2019.

It makes financial sense to get an AP when doing that.

The danger is you then decide that you might as well pop in for four days for food and wine, and heck, maybe I should see xmas decor too!

Then you'll realize you need more points and another add on will follow.

As long as you aren't going during marathon, you should be able to find something fairly easily. That's a low demand period.

You might have to do a split stay, but those can be fun.

We haven't even closed and we are already discussing that! We will have banked points from 2017 to use in 2018, so we are planning to go down 2x in 2018 without borrowing any points from 2019. And DH wants to go down over Xmas someday (2019?), which we'd need to borrow points for if we wanted to go for a week, and THEN we started talking about being able to stay at BWV or BCV ... now I'm just trying to hold off until we at least have stayed at BCV so we can make an informed choice when (not if) we end up buying a 2nd contract at an EP resort. Ha.

Also considering adding on 25 points direct at BLT which would enable us to get the Gold AP. But I think we will have to wait until we see what our use patterns are like...

I'll keep updating this for those of you interested in how long the process is taking these days. We are 1 week into the Estoppel process, and quiet as a "mouse" so far...lol
Not that we expected to hear anything this fast. Stay tuned...

The future trips and borrowing is what prompted my second resale contract. I had it submitted to ROFR just after my first was waived.

Then I added on direct to BCV to get AP discounts.

I haven't stayed at BWV yet, but I do like BCV. staying at Bwv after thanksgiving this year.

We out our offer in on 3/18 (sat), contracts signed 3/19, received our letter our loan was approved 3/20 (mon) , waiting to hear whether or not we've passed. I'm sorry this is will be our first contract ever, I'm wondering, who will contact us whether we pass (hate to say it) or not? Disney or our resale company?
