Hi Colleen! - We've got nothing going on for the holidays except for family stuff. Saving up for the Disney Dream cruise in Feb.SO happy our town's school decided to have Feb. break the week BEFORE President's Day this year...made for MUCH cheaper airfare
. Are you going down to Disney Marathon Weekend?
Don't know about marathon weekend yet. We may take the kids somewhere over Christmas and if we do, then it is a no go for marathon weekend. If we do go down in January, we will just go and socialize, no running for either of us.
Oh and about the other relay team. NOT worried about that/them in the least. You will be back.

I'll try to get this in before my short week starts getting insane.
Got to the Art Museum around 6AM yesterday and contemplated for about 5 minutes about whether or not I should run the full or half. It didn't take long before I was able to convince myself that the half was the only option this year. I looked at my NYC data from 2010 vs. 2009 the night before and it was bad. Heart rate up 10-20% and pace down 20-30%. I'm just not in good enough shape right now due to lack of time to train.
Once I decided to run the half I felt a lot more calm. I knew I could run 13.1 miles without having to worry about passing out somewhere along the Schuylkill River.
I basically ran the first 8 miles at a comfortable 7:50mpm pace. Once I got to the Zoo I hit the first really significant hill and that was it. I constantly have these groin muscle issues when i run long distances and it has been bad the last 6 weeks. By the time I reached the top of the hill it felt like the muscles between my legs were tied into a knot. I could no longer open my legs up to run very fast and I basically ran baby steps for the last 3 or so miles.
It felt good to get to the Art Museum and not have to run left towards the sign that said "Mile 14". I cut right and went straight to the half finish. Got my medal (first Philly 1/2 medal) and then got my chicken broth and soft pretzels.
Found a changing tent, changed into some comfortable clothes, and did something I never did before...watched the winners of the marathon cross the finish line. Wow! It's amazing to see runners finish 26.2 miles just a few minutes after I finished 13.1.
Philly's a great race. By far my favorite but I am biased. I think my goals for 2011 came to me as I watched the winners....just train for 2 Philadelphia races next year: Broad St Run in the spring and Philly Marathon in the fall. I really want to finish those races with PR's in 2011 and put this lame year behind me.

Lou - You really packed a bunch of long distance races in this fall. Don't think of the season as lame. You really accomplished a lot and did pretty great in all of the races.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving weekend.
This week somehow ended up being a serious step back week for me. I somehow managed to only run twice for a grand total of about 16 miles. Another day or two of this and I could probably give up this whole running thing. Maybe I'll take up pie eating instead!

Happy work week after Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a nice holiday.
Lou: Wise decision in Philia. Glad you had a good time at the half and took it a little easier on yourself. I'm toying with doing the full next year (maybe because there was a guy in front of me for most of the race with a shirt that read "next year 26.2").
Mike: I like the pie eating approach to training. Let me know how that works for you.

I'm trying to get myself to focus on making it through the holidays and our friends' wedding. Making last minute wedding stuff this week and trying to get my runs in as well. I'm starting to think of Jan and realizing that we have not planned well for the Disney trip. Not a single dinning ressie made yet, gotta fix that (who needs training when you can focus on the food, right?).
