Baltimore BOT-Fest

Mike, renaming the thread?? Yeah talk to me in about three months when y'all come to a consensus.:confused3

Jodi, buy me a NYC marathon mug when you are there this weekend. I am still PO'd that they ran out last year. 2009 or 2010 what's the difference?? Yes, I will miss being there again this year.:sad1:

Chester, what is your family signed up for WDW marathon weekend?

Bill, are you doing the full at Disney? What about Lynnda?

Judy, you are full-ing it this year correct??

I was wondering what you were going to rename the thread, too. How about "BOTS That Don't Run Together"

If there is a mug I'll buy you one .

Asking an awful lot of questions about Disney Marathon Weekend, aren't we? Just book the air & room already! Better yet, why don't you come down in May & do the triathlon with me?? popcorn::

Jodi - I saw quite a few people running MCM in 5-fingers. Also a bunch in Newtons and all sorts of assorted minimal shoes. Kathy saw some dude completely unshod. She saw him running on the mall on the pebbly, rough, sidewalk. She said he was running very gingerly

That's cool....gives me hope for Sunday :scared1:. I can't believe that guy was running over the pebbles, wonder if he knew about that before he signed up, DOH! Still thinking about giving them a whirl?

Howard - You have to be happy, too, with your run. Lots of people on the boards were talking about how hot & crowded it was. How's the legs/knee feeling? How's Cam?

Jodi~ I am satisfied with my run, but not overjoyed about it. For personal reasons more than anything else. Opportunities for good marathon times don't come along every week.

My Garmin information should "splain" it:

Miles: 26:57

Time: 4:49:43

Pace: 10:54

Splits: 9:19, 9:27, 8:59, 8:22, 8:52, 8:52, 9:02, 8:38, 9:13, 8:38, 9:33, 9:42, 9:51, 11:45, 11:06, 10:50, 11:47, 14:08, 12:31, 12:10, 12:02, 14:47, 13:16, 12:14, 13:48, and 14:35.

I clearly ran this race with a "Half" mentality and didn't pace myself early on. I need to learn a lesson here. :rolleyes1 Running out of steam isn't pretty and asking my body to run and not being able to do it is humbling. I was in pain, sore, etc... so I had plenty of excuses.

Obviously, I am not a professional at this activity. So, I will learn and move forward. Despite my performance... I had a great time and enjoyed everything but the Metro rides.

By the way, my knee issue seems to have faded into a bad memory at this point. Other than some very minor stiffness, it was not an issue during or after the race.:dance3::yay::cheer2::thumbsup2

Mike~ I saw the man in bare feet within the last .25 miles of the course. I actually passed him (that should paint a picture of how slow he was going at that point) on the way to the finish.

I saw at least 3 folks running in 5 Fingers on the course, one finished within a few seconds of me.

Cam is doing well, still walking as much as she can. She is having some issues with knee swelling after walking any distance and has been in to see her doctor (yesterday) and got some instructions on bracing and icing it afterwards. She is also going to get some Synvisk injections to help her with some issues with pain/tenderness.

BEST OF LUCK TO JODI AND LOU THIS WEEKEND!!!! LOOKING FORWARD TO A FULL REPORT!!!

Hi to everyone else!!! Hope you are having a great week!

:grouphug:

Yeah Jodi, Lou and Bruce!!!!!!!

Can't wait to hear all about NYC this year!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Okay, I'm sitting here trying to recover mentally and physically from yesterday's race. All I can think is, man, I must have been in great shape last year or I just lost it this year. NYC concludes a disappointing running season for me in that I could not must one PR all year. Yesterday's race, although exciting at times, totally kicked my butt.

First of all, for those that have not run NYC you must do it once. I cannot imagine that there is another event quite like this in the world. With the exception of the bridges, you basically have people stretched from one end of the course to the finish cheering you on like they were at the Super Bowl. It's insane.

Got to run on top of the Verranzano Bridge this year which was nice. The view of the city from there was spectacular. Running the next 3-12 miles through Brooklyn was great as I felt great and the people were awesome. Lots of high fives with little kids. By far, this is the best part of the course. By Mile 12 or so I was feeling good and felt I had a shot at 4 hrs. However, at Mile 12 you cross a bridge into Queens and for the first time I felt a little tired. However, I pushed ahead through Queens and was still on target if I could maintain a decent pace and keep running til the finish.

Things broke down when I crossed the Queensboro Bridge from Queens into Manhattan. This is a long steep bridge and, although I kept a decent pace to the other side, I was beat when I got into Manhattan. By Mile 17 I was feeling totally gassed, probably from the energy I burned on the bridge. My 8:30mpm pace quickly dropped to 9:30mpm. The crowds which got me fired up for the first 17 miles now became annoying to me. The noise was deafening.

By the time I got to the Madison Ave Bridge into the Bronx I was done. Miles 19-21 in the Bronx were a blur. My brain convinced my body to start walking. That was about it. I felt sick and my feet and legs felt horrible.

I basically slow jogged a 12mpm pace for the last 5 miles. Every time I saw a person collapse I wondered if I was next. When I got near the finish I could not even manage a last minute kick just to look good at the finish. I basically limped across the finish line and wanted to grab my medal and go home.

The finish area is murder. You stand in a procession that stretches for like a mile through Central Park as you wait to get your medal, goody bag, and drop off bag. People kept passing out to my right and left and Red Cross people were scrambling everywhere. All I wanted to do was sit but you had to keep moving until you got out of the race area.

That was about it. I took a subway downtown, limped to my hotel, got into my car and drove 2 miles back home. Got home in time to see Michael Vick beat Peyton Manning and then I crashed. Woke up at 1 AM in pain and laid downstairs and watched TV. Saw a replay of the race on TV and literally had nightmares of running all night and hearing cowbells in my ears.

No Philly Marathon for me in 3 wks. I think I'll rest up, enjoy the holidays with the family, and see if I can get motivated for 2011.

Lou

Jodi & Bruce - Glad we caught up on Saturday. Sucks we didn't get together on Sunday. Bad call on my part to try to meet at the start village. I should have remembered from last year that cell service is spotty when you have 50,000 people trying to use their cells at one time. I didn't get your message until I finished the race.

Did Bruce love the experience?

My dog shirt arrived on Saturday after I left...oh well.

Anyway, glad you guys enjoyed the race and that you PR'd the course. I don't think we could have run together anyway because they were real strict about checking bibs at the corrals. No one with a green bib got near a corral and they would not even let people into Corral #33 unless they saw "33" on your bib.

Next year we need to plan another race. Maybe something smaller and less stressful and crowded.

Lou

Chester - Where ARE you?

Bruce & I are stressing about Sunday big time. Hoping our feetsies hold up in our Fivefingers. Actually, I'm only stressing about my feet, he's just stressing general. Weather looks near perfect, so no excuses. Damn.

I did a silly thing yesterday & on impulse signed up for the Triathlon held @ Disney in May '11. Not once considering "uh....how are you going to get a bike down there, douche?" This D-bag still has no answer to that question. Anyone? popcorn::

Jodi
I've been putting in sailing miles lately. Two weeks ago I skippered my Brother in Law's Hobie 21 in a weekend regatta and yesterday I crewed for him on his Morgan 32 for a day race.

If you have a fancy tri bike, then ship your bicycle to me and I'll bring it over to you. The Muddy Buddy race is usually the day before the Tri. Or, you can use my bike - It's a Garry Fisher hybrid mountain bike with 29" wheels that does pretty good on the roads when I put the skinny tires on it. It would be a lot faster and more comfortable than the beach cruisers that some of the participants were riding last year.

Chester, what is your family signed up for WDW marathon weekend?

Colleen
I'm doing the Family 5k. Chet and I will be attempting our 4th Goofy (and my 6th consecutive Disney Marathon). Miranda has retired from marathons and Tracy will be there to Scream Team and hand out goodies at the "out and back" Do you want me to register Tracy for the Marathon so you can use her bib?

I've been bus trying to be busy. Work is kind of thin right now.

Training is going pretty good with the exception of some minor knee pain that seems to bother me more when I'm not running.

Disney Marathon weekend is next and I have no idea what race I'll do after that. We might do a Disney Mediterranean Cruise in June.

I miss you all.

:rotfl:Ha ha, no that won't be necessary, there are no marathons in my near future.

Lou, too back you had a few bad miles there at the end. It must have been nice to be home to recovery.

Jodi, where you at?

BOTS!

Hey guys...OW, I hurt today. I suppose that's what happens when you don't train for a marathon then try to run one.

Bruce & I arrived Sat. a.m, dumped our stuff @ our hotel & headed to the expo on one of the provided buses. We got our stuff quickly, & poked around the merchandise...everything is pretty much sold out by Sat. afternoon...no hoodys left, no MUGS (sorry Colleen) & weird sizes. We got to see Ryan Hall (see my photo of he & I on FB ) We met Lou for a beer after we saw a play that I had gotten tix for BEFORE I knew we were running. It was nice until they kicked us out b/c we weren't buying food or more drinks :). Bruce & I ate around 6:30 then headed back to the hotel to get ready. I was miserable...not sure why, but during dinner, all I wanted to do was go home...weird....I get like that sometimes....the whole event & being away from home gives me a lot of anxiety at times. Time for meds, no doubt :lmao:.

The race was great! Bruce couldn't believe the people, the crowds, etc. Truly the best marathon & I echo Lou's sentiment, that if you haven't run this, you should. We stuck together the entire race, which was a bit stressful toward the end as it seemed to get more crowded...yes, there was some swearing involved on my behalf. Bruce's, too!! Truly a match made in heaven, we are...:rolleyes1 I mean, really? You just STOP running in the middle of the road?? Pull off to the side, no?

Bruce started to s***-the-bed around mile 20, so he says. I didn't notice until around mile 24, when I almost had to stop & wait for him. He was hurtin'. The bone on top of his big toe was hurting bad...all swollen today :scared1:. I felt pretty strong all the way to the end, which I'm happy about. But I'm more happy that neither one of our feet snapped in two.

Wish we could've run faster, but probably couldn't have anyway even if we had the chance, :rotfl:.

We're both suffering today b/c our lack of training, but I'm sure he'll bounce quicker than I. My feet feel fine, though, just the quads, & the usual stuff that are pissed. Awesome time all told. The finish line drudgery is pretty heinous, though, just like Lou said. Bruce totally seized up & started shivering big time from the cold. We jumped on a bus back toward the hotel, took a hot shower & were on the 5:34 train.

Thank you again, guys, for donating to my favorite charity. I promise to not bug you for a while .

Chester - I didn't know you were a boat guy...I don't have a fancy bike or fancy anything, :thumbsup2. I believe the triathlon is on May 8th...Mother's Day? What were people riding last year....like rental bikes? If I could use your bike (or anyone you know) I would be completely in your debt. However, will you be in "the World" that weekend? I don't want you making a special trip. I can always go to Target & get a $70 bike then donate it afterward...it's not like I'm riding fast anyway...I suck @ bike riding :rotfl2: BTW, they say the tri is @ Ft. Wilderness...does that mean the swim part is in the lake with the alligators in it? :headache:

Lou - Sorry you had such a tough time of it. You still did great. Hopefully the marathon amnesia will kick in here soon and you'll only remember the good stuff.

Jodi - Great job to you and Bruce. I hope you both are feeling a bit better day by day.

Chester - Great to hear from you. I'm looking forward to seeing you and Tracy in 2 short months.

BOTS! BTW, they say the tri is @ Ft. Wilderness...does that mean the swim part is in the lake with the alligators in it? :headache:
Don't you know that ALL lakes in Florida have alligators... and snakes...and leeches?

Jodi
I will be at Fort Wilderness that weekend - Muddy Buddy should be on that Saturday - so my bike will be there too.

Last year there was every type of bike out there. Pros were on dedicated tri bikes but there were also racers on mountain bikes and beach cruisers. It's possible that some were on rental bikes. I just don't know which bike shops were renting or how to go about making arrangements. Maybe there will be something on the website.

Your welcome to use my bike. It rolls a lot faster than a typical mountain bike because it has "road bike" wheels on it and skinny tires. You may not be able to kep up with the true "road bikes", but you will be able to run down anything else.

The swim part is in Bay Lake and starts at the Fort Wilderness beach. The course is three legs of a rectangle and you exit the water near to the old entrance to River Country. Nobody got et by a Gator last year. You just have to be cautious if the brain eating amobeas.

Hey, yes I am already looking forward to January. It will be here before we know it.

DISboards WISH racing team members....

If you are interested in the order for WISH Racing Team Headsweats hats and or visors please go to the following thread to place your order.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2537249
I have to have a minimum amount of orders to place an order, so this is usually only done ONCE a year.
If you want a WISH Racing Team hat/visor for the up coming year's races, now is the time to get one.
I need the minimum order placed by November 20th to get everyone's hats/visors to them by WDW January Marathon weekend.

Thanks,
Tracy

Lou - I'm sorry to hear that the end of the marathon was less than enjoyable for you. I think it's a good call to bag Philly.

Jodi - I'm glad to hear that you and Bruce had a good time. How are you feeling today?

Hi to everyone else.

Nothing new from me. Just working and packing and trying to fit in as much sleep as possible. We move a week from today:scared1:

So, what are we running next fall? :rolleyes1

Brain eating amobeas!! Cool!

So, what are we running next fall? :rolleyes1
Let's see. Half of you goofballs are MCM deferred. October 15th or so Jodi's going to decide to save some more doggies and run NYC again. Lou is going to do Philly since he's not running it this year (or have you changed your mind?). Cindy and Matt are going to be too sleep deprived to care. What's that leave for the rest of us?

Lou is going to do Philly since he's not running it this year (or have you changed your mind?).
Mike - The pain and frustration from NYC is slowly wearing off and, for the first time since Sunday, I actually could see me wanting to run Philly in 2 weeks. That being said, I'll let the family make the call as I have screwed up just about every weekend this fall with my races.

Someone forgot to take his happy pill!:)

I could see that one coming a mile away. A rule of thumb, never make a decision about running within 48 hours of finishing a marathon.

This is SO true. Bruce was cryin' @ the end of NYC "never again, this is bulls***" & yesterday he called me @ work to tell me he really wants to run the Oil Creek 100 in PA next year. :rotfl2:

Chester - Yeah, what about those amoebas? Guess I'll have to wear a wetsuit & a nose plug. I'm planning to get a room @ DVC Wilderness Lodge & if I could borrow your bike I would really, really appreciate it. :woohoo:  I suck @ riding, but promise not to crash it or anything.

What about the rest of you? No one want to join me for a tri in May @ the World? popcorn::

Cindy - Can't believe you're asking what we're running next year . First of all, you know we can't get our crap together to all show up @ a run, & secondly, the only running you guys will be doing is after crawling twins!! :yay: :scared:

Why don't you guys come up & run Hartford in October? You can camp out in our house & yard.:rolleyes1

Lou - How're you feeling? Philly? popcorn::

I'm feeling much better today...still some beat muscles. Bruce went & worked legs @ the gym yesterday so I guess he's fine ....showoff.

So Colleen, what's the new name of the thread going to be? "UnableToMeetUpBotsThatDon'tRun"?

What ARE we going to do next year???? Something on the east coast, please. A smaller marathon would be good.
