Baltimore BOT-Fest

Chester: Still working crazy hours? What race is next?

Cindy
Still working 7 days a week, although I think I'm going to take Sunday off to go Dirt Biking with Miranda.

Next race is Muddy Buddy with my son at WDW May 8th. My next marathon looks like it's going to be the Beaver Island Marathon in Michigan September 4th. Tracy will probably do the Half. They allow walkers and even give them a 1 hour head start. The Marathon is 2 loops.

CindyLou - I got so caught up in Reggae toilets I forgot to comment on SmartCoach. I've used their plan for a few of marathons. No experience for shorter plans.

I liked the mileage breakdown but agree that the paces weren't what I would normally do. The tempo run paces were pretty accurate but the easy pace was WAY slow. I tried to follow the pokey pace the first plan and got real good at running slow. After that I just started using the miles and ignoring the paces. For what it's worth, my race performance was pretty close either way.

I've abandoned plans since last fall and have just run whatever I can whenever I can (I'll have to use some structured speed work again when I try to BQ again).

Chester - Beaver Island? I think I saw that movie at a bachelor party once (sorry ladies:rolleyes1).

Sara - I'm very happy to hear to are moving along. Kudos to you for taking a new career path. I could tell you a few respiratory therapist stories: interesting group at our hospital once upon a time.

Sara My younger brother is a respiratory therapist. If you have any specific questions or such please PM me and I'll get some answers from him for you. In general he really likes it. He went to an intensive 22 month program to get his license, but he got a job immediately after graduating and he made a lot of good contacts through the internship / work assignments he had during the program.

:sad2:Oh my.

Chester - That looks like a cool Marathon. Michigan can be a beautiful state...if you hit the right spots. Glad work is busy. Are you doing EEC this year?

Colleen - Reggae running? I've never been to Jamaica, ya know popcorn::. I'm just sayin' is all. What about Vegas??????? Girls trip? Ladies??? Anyone?? Bueller? Bueller?

Dave - How goes it? Orthotics still cooperating? Next running event up for you?

Mike - How's the IT band doin'?

CindyLou - Wanna run a marathon with me on 7/30 @ 7 p.m. in Wakefiled MA? It's a marathon, 12 hour & 24 ultra....I think I'm going to sign up this week.

Matt - Where's your wife?? Are you brewing beer? I think Bruce & I are going to start homebrewing...lots of places online, but not sure where to start off.

Sara - I'm SO excited for your prospects as an RT! I almost went that route myself after I went through paramedic school. There was an awesome RT @ one of the ER's I used to frequent...awesome stuff! Glad you're not glowing anymore either.

Howard - Pffft.

Lou - All set for your race on Sunday? Allergies still sucking?

Jen -Napping? ;)

Get this....Bruce is going through post-ultra blues! :rotfl2::thumbsup2 I'm not kidding! Now all the hype is over & everything is back to normal (except his knee) he's bummed. This is what will get him to train for MCM!!:woohoo: He also is thinking about getting a pair of FiveFingers..... copycat :snooty:. Me? Yeah, I'm running in my Fives & STILL loving them!! Signed up for a 1/2 on June 6 & one on 6/27, both here in CT. Other than that, I think I'll do that marathon i mentioned above & maybe the New Hampshire Marathon in early Oct.....and maybe the Adirondack one in Sept. Then maybe Vegas....and of course, MCM! :grouphug:

Good afternoon Bots

Jodi: A few more :worship::worship::worship: to Bruce. I hope his knee feels better soon. No 12 hour ultra for you huh? ;) Your race line up sounds pretty good.

Lou: What's your plan for Broad Street? Do you think you will be up for running it or are you going to take it a bit easier?

Howard: Glad to hear you are having fun even though I am really jealous.

Sara: So glad to hear you are done with treatments. Hope you are feeling well. Resp therapy is a great career. My uncle is a RT and seems to really like the job. I think having the trach experience will give you tons of "street cred"

Cindylou: Glad to hear the stomach issue is quiet for now, hopefully it is gone for good. Looking at your Boston pictures has me suffering delusions of being able to qualify someday although right now my time would qualify me only if I were 80 years old:lmao:

Chester: Nice to hear from you. I guess it is good that you've got lots of work to do, I hope you find some time to just relax somewhere in your schedule.

Judy: Good luck with the job hunt, keep us posted :wizard:

Dave: I enjoyed the Jack Hannah interview, way to not back down from your questions.

Just been a bit busy here doing nothing in particular. My parents are spring cleaning and delivered a few minivans worth of "stuff" to our house for us to look through and keep or trash as we see fit. It's taking a long time to go through it and is negatively impacting my DIS time.

Butch and I are doing Broad Street this weekend then have nothing scheduled until Disneyland, so need to put a few races in the summer to keep me motivated. We also need to actually sign up for the Food and Wine race, just got off the wait list for Boardwalk so will be staying there for the weekend.:cool1:

My only other news is the anniversary of my running is this weekend-- 2 years ago was my 1st event ever-- the Minnie 15K that I painfully wheezed my way through. I feel like I have come such a long way over the past 2 years and am kind of impressed that I stuck with this running goal and am surprised how much I am enjoying it. :goodvibes

and maybe the Adirondack one in Sept
That's a LOCAL race for me and since my girls won't stop asking me when they're going to see JODI:confused3, it would be super cool if you decide to run that one:thumbsup2

Matt - Thank you SO much for the info:hug:. I did observe the interns yesterday and the program sounds about the same. Glad to know your brother enjoys his job:goodvibes. Where IS your wife, BTWpopcorn::?

Mike - Assuming you feel I'd fit in nicely considering your personal experience with respiratory therapists:confused3popcorn:: Also, I was completely PMP at your 'poopin acid' comment to Jodi on FB:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Jodi - Just keep Bruce moving along towards MCM to keep his post ultra blues at bay:yay: I have to kind of laugh at your 'ER's I used to frequent' comment...

Jen - Best of luck to you and Butch this weekend and congrats on the running anniversary:banana: You have definitely come a very long way in two years and should be very proud:love:

Colleen - Miss you and I hope you and Jeff are doing great:hug:

Dave - Thinking of you:) Please check in when you're able.

As of this weekend I am shedding the cancer patient label and getting my butt out there being a runner again:cheer2: I'm okay starting at zero and will be thankful for whatever mileage I am able to do:cloud9:.

That's awesome Sara!! Good to see you back out there again.

Quick Broad St Run report...

Official time was 1:19:17. Not bad considering the heat but 7 mins below last year's PR. The heat/humidity was brutal. They sent out warning emails last night and made all kinds of announcements before the race. One nice thing they did was to open up fire hyrdants all over the course to sprinkle water on the runners. I was drenched by the finish.

It was scary as a saw a pretty fit looking guy drop at Mile 8 and he had to be picked off the course by cops. I also saw a paramedic golf cart with about 3 runners on IVs at Mile 9. I think it was around Mile 8 but at one point I got a little fuzzy. I couldn't remember where I was the night before or where my kids were. At that point I slowed down and just took it easy.

I'll pop back on later tonight to catch up on the thread.

Jen/Butch - Looks like you guys did well.

Megan - I looked for you at the finish as you came in around the same time as Nicole but didn't have much luck. Hope you enjoyed the race despite the heat.

Lou

This was a tough race. I was hoping to beat my 10 mile time from 2 weeks ago but the heat just killed me. After about the 1st 5K I realized a PR was just not going to happen. I also saw a bunch of people having trouble on the course and decided to slow down and be safe rather than risk injury for the sake of 5-10 min off my time. The fire hydrants were wonderful as were the med people at the end of the race. I went to medical to get a bag of ice for my knee that has been bugging me for a few days and wanted to prevent problems with it. The tent was full of people looking really bad-- oxygen, IVs, puke--not good. The medics were doing an amazing job.

Not sure what is next up for us. We got a flier for a new half in Philia in 4 weeks-- the ODDssey race. We are debating doing this one. Any interest from anybody else?

Wow! That race was just brutal! I had a good time for my first 5K but shortly after that I felt like I wanted to die! I was having serious doubts that I would be able to finish at all. I walked a good portion of mile 4 and then jogged REALLY slowly for most of the rest of the race.

Since I was so far back, lots of the volunteers weren't concerned about saving water for the runners behind me and when I asked they would throw a cup or two on me. I didn't go through the first few hydrants, but when I felt like I was going to over heat I just went through them and hoped that my feet wouldn't get too wet and blister. I'm glad I put sunsceen on before I left the house too. I had 15 on my legs, 30 on my arms and 50 on my face and neck. Viturally no color with that type of coverage!

I did see Jen briefly at the start and again at the finish. Sorry I missed you Lou! I had a coach with me for about the last block up until the signs before the finish line. I was able to pick up my legs just enough so that I looked like I ran through the finish line too!

Even after my looong nap this afternoon, I'm ready for bed. Good night everyone!

Welcome Home Cam and Howard!:)

Hope your vacation was amazing!! So, which resort was your fav?

Jen - I know a few people running it but I wasn't planning to run. The course is great but Memorial Day weekend may be tough. I'm looking for some runs down the shore this summer. There's a Ron Jaworski 5K in Stone Harbor on 6/27 that looks tempting.

Lou

Jen and Lou,

I'm thinking about that half but the heat this weekend has me scared to do anything longer than a 5k over the summer. We'll see how I since I will be training with the team all summer long anyways.

Popping in really quick to let you all know that I'm still around. I've been super busy at work and was out of town last week for a conference. I have been running, however - about 4 times a week and between 4 and 8 milers. I'm considering doing a half this weekend (I'm not really trained for it but I figure I can finish it if I take it easy) but I'm going to wait a few days to see what the forecast is looking like - I don't want to do it if it's going to be 80 degrees. Hopefully I'll have more time to catch up later this week.

Welcome Home Cam and Howard!:)

Hope your vacation was amazing!! So, which resort was your fav?

Thanks Colleen!!!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted for a while. There was free internet access at the Couples Tower Isle Resort (when it was working :headache:) and internet access at the Ritz-Carlton was $14/day. So, I didn't get online there. :rolleyes1

I made it to the fitness center at the Ritz-Carlton one day for about an hour. I have lost a lot of my fitness level since my 18 miler and I obviously need to do something about it! I have a marathon in 12 days!!!! :scared:

I have been so busy since my return, no running or gym time has been available. When I wanted to, it was raining or I had to catch up on mowing the lawn which my son convienently forgot to do while we were away. :headache::headache:

Another reason my posting has been brief is that our PC at home has been in the shop and it is expected back tonight or tomorrow. More on the fabulous vacation soon -- promise! I have a lot of reading to do to catch up with you all.

:grouphug:

Howard

Howard: Glad to hear you had a good trip. Good luck with the runs leading up to the marathon, I'm sure you'll do fine.

Sara: Thanks for keeping us posted on how you are doing. I want to hear some good reports from Sara the runner :goodvibes

We are now officially signed up for the ODDyssey half in Philia on Memorial Day weekend. The race sounds interesting with costumes encouraged and "optional obstacles and challenges" along the course. We figure we can gauge the weather-- if it is another hot, nasty day we will do the optional strange stuff and just have fun with it. If the weather and conditions look good for a PR then we take the race more seriously.

Jen- What a great way to look at it! The people at the booth said something about slip-n-slides...

I logged a run last night to get back into it. I thought it'd be much worse than it was. Whew!

Miles: 5.01
Time: 43:32
Pace: 8:40
Splits: 8:52, 8:48, 8:39, 8:21 and 8:41.

Felt pretty good throughout the run. More later on about the vacation.

Have a great day everyone!

Howard

This has absolutely nothing to do with running but I feel like you guys know more about me then most people around me. About an hour ago I just got word that we landed a 2-year contract with the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation. It's hard to explain but the PIDC is like the pinnacle agency to work for in Philadelphia. The own the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

The irony is that the Broad St Run ended at the navy yard on Sunday. When I found Nicole after the race I told her that I think I am going to be back here next week but it will be to sign a contract.

I think I will run somewhere tonight to celebrate.
