This is just crazy! I can't believe people would do something like this!! It makes me angry and I'm just a spectator. Imagine how all of those rescue workers and people out searching for the little boy after they thought he fell! I'm surprised there isn't a riot at his house!!

What do you guys think SHOULD happen to these people?

And what do you think WILL happen to them?

And do you think they'll be given a reality show of their own like they wanted? And would you watch?

I think it's insane, and that their kids should be removed from the home. I live near where this happened, and we watched it unfold on local news. My kids and I were so worried! I think there's a real sense of anger that these people would put so many others through something like this just for a publicity stunt. They should go to jail, IMO, for at least a year, and then be forced to make payments the rest of their lives to pay for all the services rendered!! Would I watch a reality show about them? NO WAY!! I would probably boycott any network that offered them one!:sad2:

at the bare minimum, they need to be held accountable for the expenses incurred during the "rescue" efforts! they should be subjected to some psychological evaluations as well to be sure they are fit to be parenting those children. it's really sickening.

ughh my reply didn't go through.
I said they should have to pay back all expenses incurred and be fined.
No I am not surprised. I questioned it all from the start.

I love it that their own children are the ones that started people thinking something was strange! I just read some of the charges and one of them could put them in prison for up to 6 years! When I first heard the story, I thought some was off.

I think they're nuts. They should be accountable for all the resources, and quite frankly, I think it's criminal. Not to mention, the kids are obviously not in a stable home.

How can you use your child like that..that is no joke.

Gosh, I was out driving that day and following it on the radio in disbelief. I was actually crying for that little kid.

Complete fruit loops!

Did you know that this family was on Wife Swap? I first saw the episode several months ago. The father really seemed to have some metal issues on that show, and now this?! Wow!

Can't say I'm real surprised. It all seemed a little too weird to begin with. We live nearby, and I was pretty upset about the waste of resources just so the Dad could promote himself. I sincerely hope no one died because emergency services didn't get to them in time due to being on this wild-goose chase. As a taxpayer, I hope they have to repay every cent of the search, but I admit this is unlikely to happen. They've apparently been only scraping by as it is, can't see how they could ever possibly repay it. I also think the parents need to serve some jail time for making a false report. It is absolutely inexcusable behavior and I feel sorry for their kids growing up and thinking this is the way normal people are!

I can not believe that the parents are so starved for attention that they would involve innocent children. Think of all the money and time that was used for a rescuse that didn't need to be.

Don't worry... mom and dad are going to go to jail and have to pay restitution for the effort to save the kid. The criminal charges are growing by the day.

Haven't those people learned ANYTHING from reality TV? It destroys families! Wasn't the mom going on Wife Swap a good enough example of the issues in that family???

The worst part is, the 6 year old will always grow up as "balloon boy" to his peers when it wasn't even his idea in the first place. He's never going to live it down.

I saw on the news that they most likly will not serve any jail time. :sad2:That's insane. They should be locked up because you know they will never be able to pay that money back. Plus those kids are in danger living with a fruit cake dad like that.

I would hope that no one would offer them a TV show after that. I know that I wouldn't watch that jerk.

I am still shocked they have done this. We sat here at work watching the entire thing. Feeling bad, worried scared for the kid and his family. I hope these kind of families are not becoming the norm of what are society is or becoming. It is just sad all around:sad2:

I just thank God that no one was killed or injured trying to "save" the boy from the balloon. There was talk of a military operation of possibly lowering someone from a helicopter to try and snag it and secure it before it could crash. This could of been dangerous with the real possibility of some poor person risking their or losing their life for a hoax.

This also shows how irresponsible our media has become with running with a story before it has been checked at all.
