One of my cats had a bald spot this morning on his back between his shoulder blades. We did not notice it last night. He is a completely black cat so a patch of bare white skin would be very apparent. It was approximately the size of a dime. This morning it looked like an abrasion caused by sandpaper. It was not discharging pus. It did not look inflamed. It looked like a little scrape. It looked like raw skin.
This evening the skin looked completely normal with a tiny pink area in the center about the size of the head of a pin. It doesn't look raw or broken, just a little pink. But it appears that there is more hair loss. The bald spot is now about the size of quarter.
He's not licking or scratching it excessively. He isn't giving it much more attention than anything else he licks or scratches. He doesn't seem to be in pain and his behavior is otherwise normal. We're thinking this might be a bug bite. We thought ringworm too but it doesn't look like what it should (entirely) to be ringworm. Also, being 100% indoor, ringworm is unlikely.
He is a 100% indoor cat and there have been no environmental changes recently.
He will be going to the vet in the morning but have any of you seen anything like this in your cat?
