Balcony or patio preference

They sure do! Thanks goodness snakes doesn't climb! :scared: I would hate to see them on the balcony! :scared1:

I guess you didn't see the thread about the snake that was above the sliding door on top of the curtains. I believe it was CR. I am not afraid of snakes but it definitely would have startled me at first.

Those little lizards climb the walls.

So far I have not seen a lizard on the second or third floor balconies so I'm going with ignorance is bliss! :rotfl2: (Thanks for the info, I'll keep my eyes open on my next trip - hopefully there aren't any little visitors to the room!)

Snakes climb.

:scared1::scared1::scared1: I'd rather see the cockroaches than snakes!! :scared:

Have any of you guys seen snakes around and what resorts did you guys stayed at? I know they are everywhere, but I'm just curious. I know I've seen lizards at all resorts I've stayed at. Thank goodness they weren't in the room.

How did the snake get in? Was the balcony door left opened? I wish I could find that thread.. Was this recently.. or was it an old thread? Thanks.

Obviously based on the AKL thread about sleeping with the patio door open, some people do this.

It would be very easy for a snake to come in the room and get in the curtains and possibly be there waiting for the next guest.

I was to say the least very shocked to find out that people think leaving patio doors without screens open at night is a good idea.

The mosquitoes alone would be enough to carry you off, much less lizards, palmetto bugs, bees, wasps and yes...............snakes.

We saw a big black racer near the bus stop at SSR-Grandstand. It was on top of the bushes and a bird was attacking it to keep it away from the nest.

If you are on the first floor, you sometimes get other guests who have no qualms about taking your patio furniture to use at the pool or elsewhere because they need more chairs. Ask Sammie about that one.
:scared1: wow. how rude!

once, only once, I accidentally left the screen door open for about 5 minutes. OMG!! the room immediately filled with mosquitoes!!! I was EVER so careful after that!!

I guess a patio opening up to the pool would be cool, esp. the quiet pool. cause you can't really all go off to the pool and leave it unlocked. unless you have a good view of it.

but when we were at BWV we got a patio and were really disappointed. we prefer a balcony.

and I still can't believe people would grab the chairs off your patio!!!!(well, I guess I can, sigh)

Usually the patios are surrounded with shrubbery of some sort. You aren't supposed to traipse through the shrubbery.

Oh please for your safety do not cut through shrubbery. And as Deb said all patios are bordered by shrubs.

A young child was bitten at Disney by a water mocassin, very poisonous snake, by retrieving a toy from the shrubs along a sidewalk.

When my family stayed at the Poly we requested a balcony and two connecting rooms. The connecting rooms were more important to us so were were assigned patio rooms. What a nice surprise that was! Our patio was pretty secluded due to the plush foliage so we treated it like an additional room. I think I would request a patio at that particular resort from now on.

If my memory serves me correctly it was a patio. I was just saying that yes, snakes do climb. It was a pretty big black snake. I was trying to find the thread yesterday but couldn't. I will try to search again.

our patio at boardwalk was not bordered by shrubbery at all.(we faced the long driveway in) I'm pretty sure the patios facing the quiet pool were not either. trying to remember the patios at beach club villas. I remember the one right by the entrance thinking I wouldn't want that, as it was one step from the walkway. I don't remember shrubs.

I do remember the shrubbery at Gf and Dolphin and Poly, however.

we know not the go through bushes.. not only because of snakes, but it would eventually ruin the bushes. at our 1st house we had a row of hedges in front between us and our neighbors. we had just planted them.th

the maillady kept walking through and I asked hernot to cause there would then be a big hole in the hedges. she actually said "No, I will. this is hard on my knees, all the walking." I said I didn't mind if she cut across the grass (the kids play on it anyway), but please go around the ehdges. she refused and told me I had to write a note of request and take it to the post office. so I did.. sheesh

Those ducks are really cute but my concern is the other kinds of critters that might slither in on the first floor patio  That is one reason I prefer a balcony

You and me both.

I think ducks are cute too, but they can also make a mess.

The patios at BWV for the most part are surrounded by shrubbery. Same at the BCV except along the walkway towards Epcot and the Marketplace. Those are fenced in.

well, our patio at BWV was not.. nor were any of the ones around us. I don't want tl split hairs with you. the point is I agree with you that I wouldn't walk through shubbery to get to the pool. for the reasons I mentioned.

never mind, treid to copy photos from hubby's old trip report (Smidgy and the GrumP) where it shows a bunchof patios, including ours, with nothing but an expanse of grass in front of it. but it didn't work I hate technology!!! aarrgghh!!!

I found the thread. I didn't look for the CR pics though. It would just gross me out.
:scared:

Its a balcony for us. We have 2 patios at home that we use all the time. On vacation...a balcony is a must. The privacy is nice.
