Balanced School Year Calendar

Never heard of Balanced before. But it seems each district has it's own schedule here. Some start as early as the second week of August, and others still wait until the day after Labor day to start. Some take 2 days off for Thanksgiving, and our district takes the entire week. Some districts take President's Day off, our district takes President's week. Some districts now take 3 weeks at Christmas, ours still takes 2. Every Thursday school is out at noon in our district. And there is one "in service" day per quarter for teachers that the kids get off (and judging from the empty parking lots on these days, the teachers do too).

We have a year round school, and I LOVE it. We get a 2 week fall break, almost a month for Christmas, 2 weeks for spring break, and other days off in between. My husband is rarely allowed to take time off in the summer because of staffing issues, so now we can vacation and the kids won't miss school. The short summer, and breaks throughout the year seem to be good for them academically, too.
