Baiting

Ever know a person who seems to enjoy baiting you?

A few of us in work watch American Idol & talk about it the next day. I happen to like one of the guys that was booted off last night. I’m not heartbroken, it’s just a show & he wasn’t near as good a singer as quite a few of the women but I liked his voice better than all but one of the men.

So this one guy I work with knows I like him & as soon as I get in he starts. “Oh, the guy you like was booted off. He deserved it, he wasn’t that good of a singer, he was all full of himself…etc.” At first I said that yes I liked his voice but he kept it up so I just started agreeing with him. Yes, I’m glad he’s off too, yes, I thought he was lousy, yes I agree. Then I just started walking away.

He can have his own opinion and voice it, I don’t mind that he didn’t like him. But I’m allowed my opinion also without having to be attacked. Instead of taking the bait, just yes them, keeps the bp down.

I can take it for about 5 mins if I'm in a good mood and then I just say something totally shocking and it shuts them up, especially if it someone that constantly does it. After a while they won't do it anymore.

Example: You get to work and the guy starts in about how my guy is gone and blah blah, I would say "oh I missed it, I was too busy have wild monkey sex" and go about my way to my office/desk.

I had to keep doing things like that with my inlaws before they finally stopped trying to bate me about politics or anything else that I did they didn't like.

Yes, that is true. I'm not really used to it in a work environment and didn't think about that. Thank you for pointing it out.

I don't know too many people in my personal life who will bait. I've noticed it more on the DIS and have actually had someone who sure seems to be doing it the last couple days.

Some people bait, some people tease and some people do both.

I once had a scociology professor who would bait me every week.

I went to college evenings on the GI Bill and most of the class had a tendency to doze through the class, depending on their little tape recorders so they could review everything at their leisure. Never being one to hold back an opinion, I would sometimes challenge something she said and that would wake the class up. At the end of the semester she told me she would bait me every week just to wake up the class... and, she also liked some of my opinions.
