Bail out doesn't pass!

You keep missing the point, in order for it to be bipartisan it needed as many Republicans as Democrats. Two-thirds of the Democrats voted for it, only one-third of the Republicans voted for it. The Republicans could not deliver their part of the deal.

Blame goes to both sides because they could not work together to make this happen. They have to do this childish bickering about each side instead of trying to do what was best for this country. I don't give a rat's *** which side votes the majority of their group for this bill but obviously both sides just want to keep bickering. Now the dow is down 700+ Neither side cares about the average everyday American.
I am sure that is not the reason...the news is just showing what was said by pelosi.....there have been many against it from the beginning. Don't forget how the news will put a spin on anything it can for ratings....they dont do munch journalism work anymore....seems they are more into being commentators....
The media didn't invent the "blaming Pelosi" diversion..I heard it straight from their mouths..

If one party holds a majority, a bipartisan effort is not need to pass a bill. If passage of this bill was really the right thing for the country, wouldn't all the Democratics have voted for it?

Because at the end of the day it's still about politics. The Dems aren't willing to risk shouldering this one because they aren't certain it will pan out either.

What kind of people would vote against a bill they thought would save the American economy because their feelings were hurt? Please!!

It is absolute BS! A smoke screen!

Exactly, this isn't about feelings being hurt (I didn't see the Pelosi speech, but could it really be that bad). It's about not doing further damage to an already damaged system. The fact of the Pelosi speech is only an opportunity for a little political grandstanding. The Bush/Obama bill would have been defeated with or without the speech.

One of our Dem reps and a Rep senator refused to approve. They said that some of the burden should fall on the industry that brought on the crisis and that the American public should not have to suck up 700 billion.
They want to have resolution but not give the people who created the problem a free ride.

Boehner insists they had the votes until Pelosi threw a match on the tinderbox.

The kind of people who think a bailout will only lead to yet another economic crises becuase no one would have learned a lesson with the previous one.

The question isn't why would you vote against it..I understand that completely..The question is, if you are certain you agreed with it would you then vote against the plan BECAUSE someone hurt your feelings..?
No!

I never said that it was invented by the media...i said the media has a way of blowing things up and making it not what it always seems or is...

again...many were opposed of this from the very beginning. I sat in bed last week when I was ill and watched about 4 hrs of the house telling there reasons why they thought it was a bad idea and why some thought it was just okay...nothing great but immediate.

There were DEMS and REP on both sides of the fence.....there were many affraid faces in the room of it being passed and not being passed.

The media will milk and add to any story they can.....and not adding all the facts. Sure no doubt the REP are saying on TV that Pelosi is an idiot for her speech....but what the media will not say is what is unfair...the facts and nothing but the facts....they have no idea what that is anymore...for either candidates or policies or anything.

The only reason I might be persuaded to support the "bailout" is because the problem was caused by government, but then again, given that, aren't they just more likely to compound their original misdeeds?

Way to go Nancy opening up your BIG mouth and bringing politics into it.

She has done NOTHING since January 2007 and now she has to grandstand!!

Republican leaders who had pushed their reluctant members for the bill blamed Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., saying that her speech during the floor debate drove away about a dozen Republicans they thought they could get to support the measure.

"I do believe we could have gotten there today if it had not been for this partisan speech the speaker gave on the floor of the House," said Boehner.

Speaking to reporters, Pelosi said that both Democratic and Republican leaders had pledged to get more than half their members to support the package and that only the Democrats had lived up to that promise. She said the lines of communication with administration and Republican House leadership to try to pass the measure.

"The legislation may have failed, the crisis is still with us," she said.

Earlier, speaking on the House floor, Pelosi said "$700 billion [is a] a staggering number, but only a part of the cost of the failed Bush economic policies - policies that were built on budget recklessness ... combined with an anything goes economic policy, [that] have taken us to where we are today."

.

I want to verify WHAT provisions of the bill were PORK. What was added which was not really needed to help our banking system regain liquidity?

Is it true the DEMs added a provision to directly help homeowners? If so then it is the DEMS who added that provision who derailed this emergency BILL. Although I'm from California where undoubtedly such a homeowner bailout would BENEFIT - I am more interested in saving the BANKING system now than anything else. Politics... it all stinks I tell ya.

OK... I'm leaving for Disneyland now... tomorrows a school holiday and I've already reserved a NICE hotel for tonite - so I'm off. Got it on PRICELINE ... a nice 4 star (or 3.5 star) for only $45 plus fees and taxes = 57.74.

No!

Do you honestly think that is the only reason...I hope not....because than we are in more trouble than we all think. This has never been a true done deal...even before Pelosi.....tell me... do you not think what pelosi did was being vindictive...or at the least childish...

Oh, it wasn't also caused by people buying more house than they could afford, taking out equity worth 110% of their property value, and living beyond their means?

The government did drop the ball, but it isn't their job to protect us from our own stupidity.

1. This not passing isn't bothering me either. The public doesn't support it and the government does work for us. I mean this is still America right?

2. Nobody wanted to vote for this bill. The news this morning was joking about people hiding in closets to get out of it! Thats why Pelosi wanted at least half of the Republicans to go along with it.

3. I don't know what the answer is here, but I don't necessarily want to set a precedent of bailing out big business.

I do think people should calm down. Panic will only cause more problems.
.....tell me... do you not think what pelosi did was being vindictive...or at the least childish...
No it was childish, just like the Republican's response to it - both are childish. THESE PEOPLE CANNOT BE TRUSTED WITH THE WELFARE OF THIS COUNTRY.

Wow...just when you think it can't get any more surreal...

What a year!!

I have to agree with my candidate--this is going to be a bumpy ride, but it will get done. I'm hoping it's not too bumpy.
