Bail out doesn't pass!

Perhaps there's a simple reason why Reps are voting against it: They ALL are up for re-election in a couple of months and the data indicates that the bailout is very unpopular with voters.

And this is the crux of the problem. No one is interested in doing what's right, they're all interested in saving their own collective butts!

I also think the problem is this has been touted as the end all to be all fix. No one dared speak about what would happen if it didn't pass only that it MUST. There is no plan B, so now what fearless leaders (Dems and Reps)?

Well I don't know where Charlie is getting his info, but apparently not from Pelosi.

I don't know either.

But for what ever reason enough Rep didn't step up and do what needed to be done. I would like to see a list of who voted yes, no, or wasn't there to vote. Because I would like to know where my people voted, and where McCain and Obama voted.

Your anger is misplaced. You should be thanking the Repubs for getting the earmarks and money for ACORN out of the bill. How could the Dems think it was okay to give taxpayer money to a corrupt organization? It is sickening. You can also thank Pelosi for ticking off the Repubs right before the vote with her partisan speech. She is an idiot.

I only saw the ACORN earmark mentioned here on the DIS, I don't think it was ever in the bill. I have yet to see the Republicans come up with a better idea. I think the Republicans want to have it both ways. They don't want to accept responsiblity for the mess to begin with and now they don't want to stand up and vote to fix the problem. Sure it is unpopular but sometimes you have to grow a pair and do the right thing.

The Senate hasn't voted yet. This type of Bill has to come out of the House first.

Guess what.! Banks come off the short sale ban list Weds morning........it will be a bloodbath if they don't extend the timeframe on the list.

I don't like having to bailout Wall Street, but I think it has to be done. I am ticked that the Republicans are not stepping up to the plate. They are more worried about getting reelected than the state of the economy.

You should be glad that just one party is not making such a big decision with our moneys...it takes both parties to come together...isn't that what Obama is all about...unity :confused3

We are in this mess due to both parties not paying attention and fixing it back when....not just one parties fault

And DEMS are also up for reelection in Nov...not just the Rep ones.:thumbsup2

Perhaps while you at it, you can also get ticked at the 40% of Democratic house members that voted against it. It's freaking mind boggling that people still try to hoist the notion that it's one party's fault that it didn't pass because of "this" provision or "that" provision.

Perhaps there's a simple reason why so many Representatives are voting against it: They ALL are up for re-election in a couple of months and the data indicates that the bailout is very unpopular with voters.

(ETA: Clarification on what I meant by "Reps".)

yes 48% for it and 50 % against.....or vise versa can't remember it was 6am when I saw that on the news.....so yes we as the people are not 100% in agreement with it.

Holy cow!! They are roasting idiotic Nancy. Please tell me one of you computer whiz's can find her speech on line.

Looks like a majority of the House Republicans think going against Bush now, will win them re-election.

All I know - this is my retirement that they are gambling with (401k). And I am NOT amused.......

Watch - people may actually start a run at the banks....... :confused3

Your 401 is safe. the crisis is a short term problem. Your 401 is a long term savings and will be ok.

What are these guys doing? Pass this thing already. Warren Buffet endorses it, that's all I need to know.

Warren Buffet just put $5 billion into financial stocks because he thought the feds were going to bail out the financials. Of course he wants a bailout -- He'll make billions after his stocks go up. He saw an opportunity to make billions on under-valued stocks.

Still listening to CNNs radio. Saying bill failed for following reasons: a.) represeenatives told to vote "consiense". Many saying that they couldn't do it-they feel "pressured" into voting for the bill without looking into more alternatives. b.)the bill was too one sided towards Wall Street & wasn't fair to tax payers.
All the represenatives are saying that it was a no win situation when it comes to re-election. :confused3
Those of us whose 401K's are in the middle of this HUGE mess-now, what? I went conservative-but still...

Please, take the party blinders off for a minute, will ya! The bill went down because 40% of the Democrats joined 66% of the Republicans to vote against it. And as for GOP "responsibility".... please! There's plenty of that to go around.

They are now saying its going to take days and they are blaming Palosi in regards to a speach she delivered for the failure in passing the bill.

I don't think we have days....

Every single one of the these elected representatives needs to be fired. If they can't get past this petty partisan crap to make something that HAS to happen for this country then they DO NOT PUT THIS COUNTRY'S INTEREST FIRST. I do not like this bail out plan but I like this Congress even less. They are all so less than productive and being paid more than they are worth.

I also think the average American does not understand why we need this bailout. They just see the everyday American loosing their house but a CEO of a failing bank getting away with millions. I just don't think the everyday average person understands how this will all trickle down to them and it needs to be explained in everyday average words but someone that does not represent either party.

Relax people. This is good news. The damage done by the Bush/Obama bill would have been far worse than what we are experiencing now. There is no need to socialize our financial markets any further.

It was not partisan. It was BI-PARTISAN. 40% of DEMS and 66% of Repubs voted against it.

Two things have to be done.

Change the mark to marketing rule.

And instead of buying the bad paper for 700 billion, Insure it. The price tag then drops from 700 billion to 35 billion.
