Bags on rides?

I usually pack very light for the parks - a few essentials in my pocket and not much else. But this trip, I'll have 1 day where I need to bring a backpack because I need to bring a change of clothes (spending morning at MK, late afternoon at GF spa, dinner reservation at Wilderness Lodge - doesn't make sense to go back to Port Orleans in between). It's been a while since I've been to Disney - can someone please remind me if I can bring my backpack on most rides? Or will I need to get a locker?

If I do need a locker - will I be able to get one before my 8am ADR (when the park opens at 9)? Or is the locker area not open til the park is open?

Thanks!!

I have no experience with lockers tbh but on our last day in Disney we usually have backpacks and we have no trouble taking them on rides. They usually fit nicely at our feet or occasionally on our laps.

You can bring them on all rides, unless it is crazy big.....people do it all the time....

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem with a light backpack. People take all kinds of bags on rides.

I always have my backpack with me on every ride. The only one I have trouble with is space mountain because it's so tight space-wise. Last trip I had a helpful CM tell me that I couldn't have the bag where I put it near my feet and offered to help rearrange it (and me!) so it fit better. She was very nice...I was having a heck of a time getting situated that ride!

Most rides have a net basket for any bags, or they easily fit at your feet.

I had issues on Space Mt -- but just wore it backwards, so it was on my chest during the ride. 7DMT I had to put the bag on the floor before I sat down or I couldn't get it there.

Unlike Universal Studios, which requires bags to be stowed in lockers, the Disney rides are less intense and can accommodate bags easier.

Side question to the original OP - does Disney have any cubbies once you get to the ride to leave your bags? My husband says he thinks it's ridiculous to wear a bag on a ride and does not think he will have to but from reading threads such as these, it seems that is what everyone does?

Nope, no cubbies. No reason to since you are allowed to take your bags on the rides. Besides, I think you rarely get off a ride the same place you get on.

Kali River Rapids does have a locker place nearby since people don't want their stuff to get wet. It's not right at the ride, but nearby. It is free for a certain amount of time (I think two hours) and you have to use a credit card to get one but if you are in and out in that amount of time, it's free. Longer than that, and you will be charged. That's the only place for lockers near a ride.

For your husband, a lot, and I mean a LOT of people have backpacks on the rides and it's not a big deal. You might want to think about each of you taking a smaller pack just for your own items and then one person wouldn't be weighted down with everything.

Just to clarify, you only need a credit card to get one if you're not back to your locker within the allocated free time. You don't need one to initially rent it. You just walk up to the lockers (there will be two rental kiosks in the middle), you select what size you want, and you are assigned a locker for which you pick a numerical password.

I always take a backpack with me and it's never been a problem, even on RRC. You'll be fine with your backpack, just put it at your feet wherever you go.

what I do for my bag ( and it is a fairly big one ) I put the lap bar down and put the bag on top of it and them lop the straps around the lap bar and then push the bag between the set in front of me and the lap bar ( I hope this makes since

Complete sense--you've just saved me space mountain anxiety for the rest of my disney life! Enjoy your upcoming trip!

If you don't want to be bothered carrying your change of clothes around all day, it might be worth it to check back at the lockers after you're done with your breakfast ADR. They might not be all gone by then.
