Bags at WDW

I have a question. I plan on carrying a bookbag with me to the parks. Since it will be just myself and my DD, I want to make sure I have everything I need with me (like a change of clothes for her, and other misc items that may be necessary). Anyway, my question is - do the rides have an area to put these items during the ride? I know that there are some rides that I could carry it with me, but some rides are not quite able to allow this. Any help will be helpful. Thank you in advance.

I carry a book bag whenever I go to WDW and I have taken the bag on every ride including rock'n roller coaster.

You can take your bag on every ride.

There are lockers near Kali River Rapids if you don't want to risk getting it wet.

Like everyone said, you can take it on every ride with you, but I will caution you to not pack too much.

If you're the only one to carry the backpack you don't want it too heavy. I learned the lesson the hard way. I could barely move my back was so sore by the end of my first single mom trip.

I am not planning to have too much in it. I always take an extra outfit for my kids anywhere I go, and it will just be my 7-year-old, so I figured I'd put her outfit in a ziplock bag to condense it down. It will just be the two of us, so I don't think it will be much. Although I like crossbody bags, I have found that I prefer backpacks when I go to a theme park type place.
Thank you!

What's the best bag to use in the park?
The lightest one possible.

Other than that, it's a personal choice. Some people like cross-body bags. Some prefer backpacks, Others like purses. My personal preference is a wristlet.

I have an Under Armour all mesh backpack that basically weighs nothing. Stuff I don't want wet gets packed in Ziplocs inside it (and personal stuff inside a makeup bag in there).

I want to take water and some snacks in the park along with other essentials, like a rain jacket, my camera, and wallet, so I am looking at taking a backpack, but I want something that will be light like you suggested.

Check out the Overland Equipment Donner bag. It is great for the parks. It has two side pockets for holding water bottles, too.

My suggestion is the lightest/smallest bag you can get away with but with comfortable straps! I traveled solo with my 2 dd's when they were little (first trip was when they were 2&4). Try and scale down what you think you need - and you may find yourself eliminating things as the trip goes on. At 7 your dd can carry a few of her own things as well, my girls wore a cute child size fanny pack with a snack, sharpie for autographs, glow sticks, a few pennies and quarters for pressing and any other small items they wanted to have.

You will be bringing the bag on every ride with you so be prepared for that. Alternately you could pack a smaller bag for carrying around and leave the "just in case" bigger items in a locker.

Have fun!

I use a messenger bag instead of a backpack, because I had too much trouble getting a backpack off when I needed something quickly, or needed to get into a ride vehicle quicky. My park bag contains:

Wallet w/ID, cash, credit card,etc.
Printout of ADR's
Camera & extra batteries
Phone
Sunglasses
Water bottle
Snacks
Rain poncho
Sunscreen
Lip balm
Tissues
Hand sanitizer
Pennies for pressing
First aid kit w/Band-Aids, moleskin, antibiotic salve, & Ibuprofen or naproxen
BG meter w/extra strips
Change of insulin pump pod
Medications & supplies as needed for chronic medical conditions
Tiny plush Figment to put in photos
All medical supplies are in Ziploc bags to keep them dry on wet rides.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a change of clothing for school-age kids or adults unless I was going at a time of the year when the temperature is likely to change between arrival and departure, but MMV. Obviously my bag would be lighter if I had been born with better health!

This is a great bag - I think I am going to order one as I can see so many uses for this!

Do you really even need a change of clothes for DD? I used to bring a change of clothes for my DD until I finslky realized that I hadn't needed one since she was 2. I wouldn't even bother.

Go lightweight with comfy straps, and ONE main pouch (to unzip at bag check). Visible organizing pockets inside the bag are okay. I try to eliminate the bag entirely if possible (especially if we return after dinner) After dinner, I used to even skip the camera. Now I just use my phone all the time.

Before we go, I take everything out of my wallet that we won't need on the trip. Just: ID, cc, WDW tickets (if any nowadays), discount cards useful for WDW, insurance cards, and that's about it. Also, anything you can compact, compact - like a minimum of tissues in a snack bag vs. a full box. I would much rather replenish at night what I use, than carry extra all day.

I keep a paper copy of conf #'s in our luggage, The copy I keep with me is electronic. I consult it each A.M.

Water bottle

We only bring snacks we know we'll eat inside of an hour. I don't want to eat food I've been carrying all day...not when WDW has so many fun options. Unless you want it for a medical condition

Rain poncho -only rainy days
Sunscreen - a 1/2 ounce chapstick style tube. Really only use if someone forget to apply in the A.M. , and maybe on Epcot days.
Hand sanitizer - Don't need, but if I have a 1/2 ounce sample size in my tiny purse. Washing hands is better.
Band-Aids, moleskin, antibiotic salve, & Ibuprofen or naproxen - If have a bag, I carry two of each. wrapped in micro plastic bag. You are at WDW, every park has a fist aid station with free wound care, etc. Many stores carry small packs of meds for like $2.

Medications & supplies as needed for chronic medical conditions - YES! - if you need. I have read horror stories on the DIS!

At times, we have also used zip lock bags in the parks: AK days, or days when it will rain hard. I ALWAYS pack ziplocs in our luggage. For travel, the hard to find, 2.5 gallon bags are great, as are the tiny snack sized bags.

Zippered pockets on clothes are a godsend. Cargo shorts for women are kind of out of fashion now. They were great at WDW. If it is cold or wet, I often toss all of the above in my coat pockets and love it.

Also, having learned the hard way, I avoid anything that can come apart, many bags have a strap that can be removed. You want sturdy straps.

It also matter slightly when you are going. If spring, you can really carry a minimum. If summer, bring extra water.

Water tolerant shoes are also smart on wet days.

If I must have a bag, I like cross body. I don't have to do anything on most rides (except at US). US is very strict. They have free lockers.

Almost every ride at WDW has different load/unload areas, so you must carry everything with you. The only rides that don't allow you to do so are Sum of All Thrills where you will be allowed to store it in a locker by the ride vehicle, and Soarin where if it doesn't fit under the seat it will be left in the marked areas on the floor where they would also leave wheelchairs. Everything else you take it on with you and stuff it by your feet.

I echo the crossbody bag recommendations. I tried a backpack on my first trip and found it inconvenient, having to take it off to access anything and situate it during rides. You can get into a crossbody bag while still walking, and if it's not too large, you can keep it on during the ride.

I carried a backpack in 2013 because it was late October and my hoodie was on and off and on and off, plus I just had stuff I wanted to have with me. It went at my feet, with one leg through the strap. It was fine everywhere, even on RnRC.
