I was under the impression that if you purchased baggage transfers with your package that you did not have to retrive your luggage at the airport...that the cruise line reps handled that for you and transfered onto your hotel room...now, I am hearing that I have to retrieve my luggage at the airport and take it to the Disney bus and then when we arrive at the resort, I have to retrieve it there as well and give to the bell staff to deliver to my room...Can someone please help with my confusion
 If that is the case, do I get the bags from the bus at the port and take on the ship? Did I make a mistake in purchasing baggage transfers?????

Thank you so much in advance for any advice!!!!!!!!

First of all, you did not purchase baggage transfers. You purchased "transfers" which include the person and the baggage.

You didn't tell us exactly what you booked, but it sounds like you're doing a land portion at WDW then a cruise. Did you book the land/sea package, or are you doing it separately on your own (it makes a difference).

If you are going first to a WDW resort, you claim your bags at the airport and take them to the Disney bus. The bus then takes them to the resort and gives to them to the bellman--you don't see them again till they and you are in your hotel room. When you are ready to leave for the cruise, you put your bags in the hall and call the bellman. He will pick them up for you, and the next time you see them is in your cabin on the ship. All tips for the luggage are a part of the transfers (of course, they'll never turn down more.) This is the way it was on our last Land/sea booked as a package.

The reason you claim your own bags is that you don't put the DCL tags on them till the day you sail. You don't want them going to the port instead of going to your resort. This is even more important if you added extra land days or booked outside of the standard package.....

Thank you Kcashner!!!! You helped me so much with my confusion!!! Yes I did purchase a 3 day land/4 nite sea package but added 4 more days at Disney. I purchased everything thru Disney except my airfare which I purchased myself thru Delta. I am so glad you explained the way the transfers work or I would have been on my way to the parks and my luggage sitting somewhere else..:( .....Thanks so much for the help!!!

Sorry but I need to clarify things a bit. If you are arriving at the Orlando airport on a Thursday or Sunday before 5:30 PM then please put your blue DCL tags on your bags before you leave your home airport. The DCL baggage reps at the airport will pick up the bags for you and send them to your resort or the ship as appropriate. Your blue DCL tags are coded for your first destination, either a resort or the ship. The CM's will look at the tags (both visually and electronically) and determine where you are headed.
If you arrive after 17:30 hours or on another day you will need to pick up your bags at the airline carousel and take them with you.
This information is only for Disney Wonder guests.

Ok...so I am arriving in Orlando on Sunday (my flight arrives at 11:39 a.m.) before cruising on the wonder on the next Sunday...I did purchase a land/sea package, I just added more days...So..this was my original understanding--that "THEY" pick my luggage up at the airport baggage area and take it to the Disney Cruise line bus and deliver to the resort since I have purchased the transfers....correct?????

Correct.
Actually they send the baggage to the resort on a separate truck, but you don't need to worry about that. I am assuming that the 4 extra days are at the same resort, so that you are spending 7 days at one resort.

Yes they are at the same resort---Thank you so much!!! I was hearing this version of the transfers and then the other version so I was very confused--I know it is still 10 months away, but have never cruised and dont want any problems--just myself and my 7 yr old going--- Thanks alot!!!!!!!
