Hi, just wondering about baggage allowance. There are two of us travelling to Orlando and we each have a baggage allowance. Normally this would be one suitcase each.
The thing is, I have a very large case that would fit both of our luggage in and want to use this.
The question is.... are we allowed to combine our baggage allowance together so we can use just the one suitcase even though it will be heavier than the single persons allowance?

Yes you can combine your baggage allowance. You will have to check small print as each airline is different - usually the most each individual piece of luggage is allowed to weigh is about 32kgs. We went to WDW last year - a family of five and used two very large suitcases. They were weighed at Manchester and we were advised not to add too much to our cases on the way home as they were already nearing the limit - it is to do with health & safety for baggage handlers.

We did the Downtown Disney check in on our way back, the Virgin reps picked up each case but said they had no need to weigh as the cases felt fine to them - be warned though they were weighing some luggage and they simply will not accept it if it goes over - you will have to go buy another case. :cool1:

Hiya

Thia all depends who you are travelling with. I took this from Virgins web site

On Transatlantic, Caribbean and Nigerian routes we operate a piece system of allowance for checked in baggage.

Two pieces of luggage per passenger, each weighing up to 32kg (70lbs). When added together, the three dimensions of any piece of luggage must not exceed 158cm (62in).

Hope it helps

I agree - I think that most airlines have now introduced this health and safety measure for baggage handlers. On BA, although they tend not charge if you are over the baggage limit (which with golf clubs etc, we always are slightly) the observe the individual limit very strictly - I think 32kg per piece is right.

Many times we have been at the check in desk with me frantically trying to pull pieces out of one case and put into another, so I would be really sure if I were you that the one case you have isn't over this limit.

The 32Kg is a EU ruling to stop health ans safety problems of baggage handlers hurting themselves. This will become the norm for all items of manual handling, hence more councils going to wheelie bins for waste etc....

We just got back on Saturday morning and were amazed that our bags were not weighed at MCO on the return. They were happy that we just had 2 bags each.

would surgest checking the web sit of your airport as its them which will limit baggage weight per item under the new rules
