Bag Security Lines

I was there April 12-19
The lines were longer than my Dec and Feb trips but not like the pictures from a couple weeks ago.
I do try to go bagless as much as I can now

I remember seeing a thread a few weeks back about there being massive lines for security as HS. For those who have been recently, are the lines still long or are they back to normal?
I was there from the 11th-18th and never waited more than a minute or two at bag check at any park, even when the line looked crowded.

Eta: we never go for rope drop, that might make a difference

Went to all 4 parks from 4/22-4/26, each about 30 min to an hour after opening. Security line was about 15 minutes at each one. I was randomly selected for the metal detector at EPCOT, and that only took about a minute, maybe two.

Leaning towards bringing a bag and arriving 45-ish minutes before rope drop? Does that seem like enough time to get through the security lines before the park opens?

if you get there 45 minutes prior to RD there will basically be no line.
it seems like the people that are waiting the longest are those that walk up to bag check a few minutes before or a few minutes after RD.

i always arrive about 30 minutes prior to RD and i only ever wait a minute or two which seems to still be the case with beefed up security.

I got a Running Buddy which is great! I walked right through the "no bags" entrance. I did stop for a few random checks though. Still faster, even though bag lines didn't look all that long.

So quick question....if you get there 30-40 minutes prior to rope drop, do they let you through security lines before the park opens, so that when the CM's come to walk you through the turnstiles, you're already done with security?

I'm confused. We plan on doing RD for every day of our upcoming trip. If we get there early (at least 30 minutes prior), will we go through the bag check line first and then be allowed into the area where you wait for rope drop? Or do they start checking bags right where you enter the park at RD? Thanks!

you'll go through bag check and then walk up to the tapstiles and wait for RD.

We were there last week Thursday through Saturday. Arrived shortly after rope drop, went through bag check every time with 0-2 minute wait, by looking carefully for a short line with no overpacked people. Avoided eye contact with any secondary security people and did not get pulled for secondary checks.

Avoid lines with people who are close to inspection yet stand there clueless with bags still zipped up and strollers stuffed full.

For MK bag check security first, then lines at the turnstiles (which they may start sending people through 1/2 hr before "official opening"), then you are held inside turnstiles but before tunnel under the train, then released into the park at opening or shortly before, following a short opening event. When we RD, aim to be at the turnstiles at least 30-45 minutes before official opening time, thus target is to get onto our resort bus one hour before park opening (direct to MK from resorts we use, no other resort stops)

Not so sure when CMS start to man the checked bag line but if you are there 45 minutes or so before official opening we never had any long delays. I think the issue with delays at bag check will come into pay right before opening and for the first few hours of park hours.

So how early are CMS there and checking bags? We were planning to go bagless, but the bag check line doesn't sound too bad if you get there early enough.

i've never arrived at a park more than 30-35 minutes prior to RD so i don't know how early they are there but i can tell you that i'm never the first one there so i imagine they start at least 1 hour prior.
but really as long as you don't get there just before RD you really shouldn't have to wait long.

Here now. Bag lines are long but I'd say on par with crowds in general. And I've had luck finding a shorter bag line every day. I usually arrive 15-20 minutes after rope drop.

I've been "randomly selected" twice now and it takes maybe an extra minute if you follow directions. My guess is it's take longer if your pockets are loaded down.

this is a great example of when the lines are long.... just before and just after RD.

usually it's quick but if there is a rush of a lot of people it can get pretty long for a few.. it's not a non-stop long line..

I've ditched a bag for WDW unless I absolutely have to, it makes things so much easier. The opposite is true for me at Universal- I like having the bag so I can throw just one thing in the locker and just grab one thing out.
My husband has a 100% hit streak with the security scanners at WDW- doesn't matter which or when, or if we have a bag or not, he's always pulled. I have more poofed out pockets due to my testing kit, yet he's always pulled and I'm typically waived through. I think it's the nerd vibes he emits.

We were there April 2-13. Bag check was brutal. 15 minutes at 7:40am for a 9 open. Over 30 It was never under 5 even in the middle of the afternoon or evening and we got secondary screened a lot. I don't think that's the norm but the best thing you can do for your trip is arrive earlier than you think and go with the flow.
