I am in line at bag check at Hollywood Studios, where I have been since about 8:50. I have been to Disney at Spring Break and Christmas Week multiple times and NEVER seen it like this. They have CMs with microphone headsets going around telling people to get their bags ready even though you cannot see the end of the line. Honestly, it was almost as if they did not start checking bags until rope drop. We had a fast pass for little mermaid that I know is not needed, but we're going to miss. Not sure what is going on here today!!

I have noticed on our last two trips (January and March) that the Disney security guards are looking at bags much more closely than in the past (last September). They are looking in every single nook and cranny and I saw them even checking some backpacks for hidden items sewn in.

I have vowed to go bagless next trip (July) - the lines were just too long and moved too slowly in bag check lately.

We are going to try to go bag free the rest of this trip too. It's just hard because ponchos are needed with the midday storms.

We just entered the park. Total time spent in bag check this morning = almost an hour.

Well you've confirmed my suspicions. I just ordered cargo shorts for our upcoming trip - going to put everything in my pockets and no bag!!

Everyone makes fun of me when I say "cargo pants". That's ok though...I laugh at them when I'm exiting my ride and they are just entering the park :)

bag check at HS took the longest out of all parks for us. Not an hour though, that's crazy!

Carry your ponchos into the park, and as soon as you get in, go to the nearest shop and ask for a big bag. Put all ponchos in it.

would it being Easter yesterday and Easter week in general have anything to do with this amount of people waiting to get into the park today?

We're not sure. We talked with another family who said that they did not start checking bags until 9am. I cannot confirm this, although it felt that way, but it might be something to watch.

Toy Story is down and has been all morning, so they also might have been trying to delaying people for that reason.

Good idea about the ponchos!!

Bag check was all over the map for us last week. Some guards were very thorough in their checks. Others were just trying to move people through.

I was in the parks from March 13-18 and the bag check lines were very long at any given time. They were being VERY thorough with every single bag. I think it has to do with 1. the incident in Jan or Feb with a guest trying to bring a gun into the park 2. recent world events and 3. it's Easter which is the busiest time of the year at WDW.

We had this happen at AK last June, so it's not *entirely* new.

I read a thread where the man with packed cargo shorts was "randomly selected" to go through the scanner multiple times which meant that he had to empty all his pockets. I am rethinking my need for a bag every again.

If you have no bags you can skip the long bag check and then when you get picked "randomly" for metal detector it will be faster just to empty the pockets and go through.

perhaps this is no longer the case but i generally get to the park 30 minutes prior to RD and its always a breeze to get through security.
hardly anyone in line.
last trip was in december 2015 so maybe since the beginning of the year this has changed.
i just cannot go bagless.
