I would agree that either making vinegar or tossing it would be advisable. I also don't cook with cooking wine or wine I wouldn't drink.

I am curious about the boxed wine as I am the only wine drinker in my home and I hate opening a bottle to have to throw it out the next day. I can't stand it after the 2nd day. How much are the Black Box reds?

I am also the only wine drinker at my house. I buy the Black Box cabernet sauvignon at Costco for $17.99. Trader Joe's also sells it, but for $19.99.
I quite enjoy it. FWIW, on-line reviews are positive. This wine holds up so well in a variety of climates, according to the reviews, even Egypt's 120 degree temps.

I tend to like most cheap reds better on day two - they need a lot of breathing (if I don't decant). By day three its definitely not better, but drinkable to me, by day four, a cheap red gets used in spaghetti sauce. But its a matter of taste and preference.

An aerator is an awesome thing to own. No waiting for the breathing process.

I own a wine store here in Toronto.
the first rule is the wine gets better with age as long as you started with good grapes.
Secondly it's true to a point. you aren't going to find a 400 year old bottle that is out of this world. It would have spoiled by now.
Our experience is AT THE MOST 10-12 years for MOST wines, anything after that and you've got some vinegar.
