Hello all!
We're leaving Friday for the Saturday 12/30 Magic Cruise. Here in the Northern Plains the chance of bad weather blanketing the region may be expected. For that reason we specifically decided to fly in the day before.
Now we booked all through Disney, so we know that if the ship leaves without, us they'll get us to the next port.
However, I want to know if anyone has actually had this happen to them, and how it affected them good or bad? And how well did Disney handle the situation?
TIA

We fly in the day before as well, since we are from the NorthEast. We will never fly in the day of ever again. It is so relaxing getting there way in time. On our 12/2/2006 cruise the captain held the Magic till 6:00ish while a family rushed to get to the port. We were told that they got stuck in a horrible storm and that they were rushing to get to PC. We still had our sailaway party - we just didn't set sail! ehehe - the bus arrived around 6:30ish to cheers from the boat - shortly after the bus pulled away from the port - we pulled away from the pier!

We used to worry about that too, but we also fly in early. This time, we are flying in on Wednesday because it is so much cheaper, and we are heading to Universal for a few days.
We're also from the Northeast, and I am not taking ANY chances. We have been lucky in the past, but you never know about the weather here.

We are flying in Thursday morning before our cruise January 20th. The weather here (I am also from the Northeast) can change in a heart beat and we have learned at this time of year to give yourself every advantage. I would be stressed to the max thinking that I might not get out in time.

Friends of mine booked through Disney and were unable to make their cruise due to the shut down at Denver last week. They have travel insurance, but have not heard of what DCL will be doing as far as refunds, etc.

Remember DCL only acts as an agent for a particular airline and cannot hold the ship of 2700 for only a percentage who might miss the cruise indefinitely.

But they WILL hold the ship for a little while. Our departure was delayed an hour while we waited for a total of 20 passengers whose flights were delayed. The arrived at different times, all on Disney Buses, the last bus LITERALLY was screeching it's tires in the turns up to the ship it was going so fast....and a man, woman and two children got off and ran onto the ship with Disney staff running behind them with their luggage.
RUMOR on board later was they had booked their air fair and travel insurance through Disney.......and Disney had booked them on flights that even without the delays would have been cutting it very close to departure time.

But this was an Eastern cruise, where there are 2 full sea days to speed up the ship to get back on schedule. Not sure they have that option with the Western without delaying the arrival in the first port.

Yes but in the case of Denver, you were talking about a delay of several days not hours.
