HI everyone we leave or our vacation on Sunday and this will be our first time at universal studios. We will be going for one day doing both parks and have a express pass. My worry is the weather forecast calls for thunderstorms that day can you all tell me what closes during times of heavy storms? Does the whole park close or just the outside rides like the coasters? Thanks for your info We paid over 400.00 for a day there and I would hate to be told the park is closing go home.

No worries. Only the coasters and the other outdoor rides close until the storm passes. All the inside rides, restaurants, shows, shops, etc will still be open

Unless there is a hurricane or that type of storm, the parks won't close. As NotAmused said, the outdoor rides will close during a thunderstorm if there is lightning within a five mile radius but other than that, they keep on truckin.

For that matter....thats about the only time disney closes as well...if there is a Tropical Storm or greater eminent. I think I was at Sea World one year when a tropical depression rolled over....We were on Kraken as a feeder band blew through....fun.

It has been my experience that the weather forecast from mid-may to mid-sept in Orlando is calling for thunderstorms. While we were there for seven days in Late june.. all days called for ts and had at least a 60% chance of rain... except for our last day there which had a 20% chance of rain(which was the only day it actually rained - and they closed the outdoor rides down till the major part of the storm passed)I believe they only close down the outdoor rides during actual "lightning" in the area.

At Islands, the entire park closes EXCEPT:

Spiderman
Storm Force Acceletron (if rain gets on the turntable, then it closes)
Discovery Center
Poseidon
Cat in the Hat

At the Studios, everything stays open EXCEPT:

Jaws
Kidzone Area
