A few of you on FB were following this last night as it was happening. For those who weren't, there was a serious fire across the street from my house last night. A neighbor's home went up in flames just before 8 p.m. and is now destroyed. It took all three of the town's fire departments to contain the blaze along with several from a neighboring town. The flames were finally put out around 11:30. The house is completely totalled and will likely be demolished as only half of it remains.

Fortunately, the elderly woman (who has mental problems and is a horder) was not at home when the fire started. Unfortunately, her pet dog and cat were and did not survive. It is likely that this is due to the contents of the house causing the fire to become more powerful in a short amount of time.

Please think ahead and make sure you have a plan to get not only the human members of your family out in the event of an emergency, but also your pets. My heart hurts for these two that were lost.

Below is a picture of the house when the fire was put out in the front, but still going in the back. It is from a local newspaper.

Oh, that's too bad. Sorry to hear that Nikki, and I wish the best for your neighbor. It must be very hard for her.

We always kennel our pets overnight, so if anything ever happens then we know right where they are. The same goes for when we are out of the house, they are kenneled so the firemen can find them immediately. They won't instinctively try to hide from the fire.

I have that little pet sticker on the window outside their kennel room, which is my office, so the firemen can get to them as quickly as possible.

Nikki, I'll be sending positive thoughts to your neighbor.

I have a dog.. and if anything like this would happen to him I think my heart would hurt so much:sad1:
It's amazing all the love this little things can give us, we have to take care of them ...from the moment we adopt them they are in our hands, and we have to protect them. This is so sad:sad1: I can't imagine how devastated this lady is :(

This is so sad Nikki....my heart is just hurting at the thought of it. Sending lots of good thoughts that way...
