Okay, I've been patiently waiting, but now I've got to hear about those bad gifts from the ILs! Who got a bad gift this year?

Most people wouldn't consider mine bad, but I got some scented candles from MIL and FIL.

Very nice, until you consider I have asthma and can't use them. :(

Oh good -- I've been waiting for this! But why just gifts from the in-laws? Why discriminate against single people?

Bad gifts from anyone! It was just that the ILs seem to have bad gifts mastered, but anyone get bad gifts from anyone?

SIL handed DH a $20 and said "Split this up for the boys" referring to my two DS (ages 9 and 10). Now, though I generally don't care for cash gifts, if she REALLY couldn't think of anything to get them, fine. But, couldn't she at least have put it into individual cards with their names on? And how about 2 $10's instead of one $20? To me, this screams "THOUGHTLESS" gift. Am I wrong to be offended? (By the way, the family always buys for the kids, no adults, so we did buy for hers and she did buy a toy for DD, just not the boys.)

 Wow. What a grinch.

I got a couple of things I need to return, but nothing I can really say is a "bad" gift - they were all thoughtful in their own way. I'm just picky! :)

I got a bad one too....

2 Boxes of oatmeal......

It was supposed to be a joke from my MIL, but DH and I didnt get the joke or find it amusing...

Thanks. ;)

I got a box of Rice Krispie Treats... again. My mom gives them to me every year. She's under the impression that I LOVE them. I mean, I like them, but come on. Sure, I'll eat them and enjoy them. The thing I'm going to have to return is the Rice Krispie Treat making kit. I already have a problem with clutter, and a pan and knife will work just fine for me IF I ever decide to make these (I never have). It's weird how people get these ideas that you're a big fan of something.

Eep! Did she get you a real present too, or just the "joke" one??

No we did get some real stuff from them too...It was just that only the IL's stuff was all we had...so to waste a "gift" on oatmeal...come on...

Anyways, I did get a nice Italian Charm bracelet, a Pug sweatshirt with my dogs name on it, and Finding Nemo on DVD so it wasnt all bad...

I would have been thrilled if my SIL had done anything close to this. :( Not saying that you have no reason to be offended, I guess it's all relative to our own personal experiences.

My kids got nothing from their only aunt. Then again, what can I expect from the woman that didn't bother to tell her best friends that she has 2 nephews and one niece. I guess in her mind, they don't even exist... She told DH that if she had been "on the ball" this year, she would have done something... Not exactly sure what that means, as this is expected behavior from her. DH, being the saint that he is, just says that is how she is and there is nothing he can do to change her. That's true, but it still hurts.

What's that saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. That's right, I can kick myself for not going with my gut instinct. I sent them gifts and a card with pics of the kids because I knew that it would make DH feel happy that we included his only sibling. I told DH that this is the last year that I'm doing this for his sister and her family. To heck with them all! :wave2:

I'm sorry to get off topic, this has been really eating at me. I'm mostly mad at myself. I really had to get that off my chest.::yes::

A portable grill, a neon palm tree, and a big bottle of margarita mix. We are parrtoheads and are decorating a basement tiki bar, but that was a little strange I think.

So she's not my MIL but she's my boyfriend's Mom. Shr got me a scarf, hot, bag matching set. It was kinda fuzzy. Thoughtful but not my thing.

Ah yes, the "department store Gift Sets Here! table" present. I know it well! :)

My SIL got me a small bowl (baby bowl) with a mickey on it and it was old and tarnished.

My SIL and BIL got NOTHING for my two kids. BIL buys for his sisters 6 kids (my SIL) but not for my kids.

I asked for a simple pair of slippers, even showed dh a pair....he said he already bought some...ok.

What I got was a pair of Wal-Mart, Clearance, house sandals???? Not sure how to describe them but, they're not slippers....slip-ON maybe, for the person with a totally flat foot. I can't fit my foot through the non-flexible front part, thankfully, because they are just awful! Went today and bought myself a pair of Dearfoams for $4.00 on sale. :sunny:

Depending on your perspective this probably isn't a bad gift but I wasn't overly thrilled with it, lol. My MIL and FIL tend to buy one gift for dh and I and this year they bought us some kind of air compressor/battery starter/ac provider piece of equipment. My dh will probably really love this but I didn't think too much of it, lol. Of course dh probably felt the same way when they bought us a mircowave last year. I sure didn't complain then, I needed a new, larger microwave and I was glad they got it for us so I'm not going to complain this year when they bought us a 'guy' gift.

MY DB and SIL really outdid themselves this year.
Brief history.... DB owns a house and has a "bar" downstairs. For it, I have (in the past few years) purchased him an electronic dart board (he always plays darts when he's at a "real" bar) and a bar-type light (I forget the brand of beer advertised).

DW and I just bought a house (moving in next month) that also happens to have a bar. DB and SIL gave me, for Christmas, a cordial set (complete with decanter and serving tray) from Bed Bath and Beyond, and a "football" chess set. YYYYUUUCCCKKK!
1) I am definitely not the "cordial" drink kind of person..... just give a beer or some rum (straight), thank you very much.... 2) Never played chess, never will.

In defense of DB, I know he didn't go and get the "gifts" himself.... SIL did it for him. DB cannot be THAT stupid! Oh well, on a positive note, at least I already have some items I am donating to our church rummage sale this coming May!::yes::
