Backup Plan if you test positive

Understood, but what is the difference between getting a shuttle or cab to go get the rental car vs taking a cab from the car rental drop off to the border?
Taxis are not generally considered public transportation.

I'm sorry I'm not sure I understand your backup plan. I only am curious because I'm trying to plan mine too bit I don't drive and won't have a car. So at some point if I were to get the email that says one of us is positive for covid we would need to take a cab or uber to a hotel we are "hunkering down" in or a cab to the border if we test in buffalo or in the case of people who will rent a car and drive a cab to the car rental place. All of these options involve some kind of public transportation and exposes someone to covid. I'm not even sure that you can stay at a disney resort if you test positive.
Taxis and Uber etc. are not considered public transportation. Regardless, we all know that there are likely many covid positive folks on public transportation, airplanes (within the U.S. and Canada, even possibly when crossing international borders because someone could very well catch covid after the 72 hour test was taken) and everywhere else, sigh. The reality is that taxis will be necessary to move around in a contingency plan. At one point in the past Disney was planning on using Fort Wilderness cabins for covid positive individuals.

I understand but in the post I was originally quoting the poster said they would avoid taxi to avoid exposing the driver to covid. I was trying to make the point that a cab would at some point be necessary.

Ah, yes. Sorry. I agree with you. Double masking with an N95, for example, is a good protocol to keep safe. That's what I would do if in that situation.

So, if you test positive for covid you'll just grab a rental, drive across the country? I'm pretty sure you're supposed to self isolate. I don't understand why everyone keeps talking about hopping in a car when you're positive and travelling when you're supposed to be staying put. I don't think you can even rent a car if you have covid, can you?

Does anyone know the rules in the US if you test positive? Is it diff by state? This is a very interesting topic. I (wrongly) assumed that Canadians are just flying into border states like Michigan, and grabbing a cab to cross the border, positive or not. I know for certain that Canadians cannot board a Canada-bound flight if positive but it is also my understanding that they can drive over the border to enter Canada if Canadian citizens. Just can't go the other way.

Right? Not many posters have described a plan that includes immediate self-isolation. Don't we all actually care about preventing the spread of the disease that has turned our world upside down or now is it just about the loopholes to facilitate travel?

agree 100%. If this post was about Americans visiting Canada testing positive and they didn’t isolate but drove through our country while positive to get home , I feel like there would be backlash ..

Wouldnt you have to legally tell the taxi driver that you have tested positive for covid before you got in? I think I would be able to guess their response. And if you do not disclose it and are "found out"...
Not sure about everywhere, but here in the Toronto area it is not against the law. They ask that you try to do other options first, but if you must travel by taxi or ride share that you follow strict masking protocols etc. They realize that sometimes you will need to get from point A to point B for specific situations.

But going on a florida vacation isn't a must. If someone can't do the isolation time, they should change their travel plans. I don't care how many ways or excuses someone slices it, to travel from Orlando to Canada, with most likely the contagious delta variant is irresponsible and selfish. Considering the moderators don't allow you to post things about circumventing disney rules, I'm surprised they allow this kind of thread on how to circumvent the health regulations. I'm sure the health care workers in the regions surging with the delta variant now won't mind though.

I just wanted to also mention that this thread seems to assume that you will feel totally normal and be able to drive for days to the border (for example). But, several people on the Here Now Just Back thread that have come back positive, even when vaccinated, say they feel terrible and exhausted. So I just think it’s a worthwhile mention that one can’t assume you’ll be full of energy enough to make any sort of journey.

I completely understand the pressure to use your DVC points after missing more than a year and continuing to pay dues. I'm assuming that DVC is the big push to go to WDW in the face of climbing delta numbers. I thank my lucky stars I never had any interest in buying DVC, or any other US time share, and so don't have that financial stake in getting to Orlando. But if you have to seriously plan out a covid infection escape strategy to get back to Canada, isn't that a big red flag that your trip is more trouble than its worth? Perhaps if you are just 2 fully vaccinated adults with no family at home and minimal community contact when you return, then you can accept the risk. But if I was toting along unvaccinated kids hoping to go back to school in September, or had parents and grandparents depending on me to help them out this fall or at least show up for visits, this trip would be a heck no. I wish anyone who takes this trip a great deal of luck and really hope for the best but man it sounds high stress just trying to plan it. Having a mini stroke or chest pains in Orlando during their 4rth wave would be horrifying.

If you read my post, the first option is isolate there.

The simplest plan would be self isolate in place. I quickly scanned Airbnb and there are tons of condos much less expensive than a Disney property available for two weeks starting tomorrow, so you wouldn’t need to reserve beforehand. There are tons of food delivery around Orlando, both from restaurants or markets.

The one downside is medical care around Orlando is not abundant right now, but if you are fully vaccinated the idea is you won’t get sick enough to end up hospitalized.

The in Ottawa pretty much the only such acceptable situation is if you need to go to medical care. The city has a number you can call if you are in isolation and need assistance getting things like groceries and medications delivered or other assistance.

Just curious, if people are travelling with family, and you test positive, are you planning to stay behind by yourself while everyone else heads back to Canada?

If not, self isolating all together in a small hotel room with those who (so far) tested negative is not ideal. Which will have to happen if the kids are the ones who test positive.

At this point, I’m not so sure our March break 2022 trip will be happening.

And Airbnb stay after having just tested positive is a violation of Airbnb policy. See https://www.airbnb.ca/help/article/2833/quarantine-and-isolation-stays-policy

Absolutely true! But it does give you an idea of what’s available. Most of these condos are not rented by individual owners, but are corporate apartments. You can then back out of Airbnb and contact the rental company directly or on your favorite travel booking website.

Airbnb’s policy is because many of their offerings are homeshares. A home share would not make a good place to quarantine.

I was thinking 2 options-
1) rent a last minute townhome with pool from expedia type of thing and order in until we test negative, we would already have our rental (all of us fully vaxxed)

2) which I had read on these boards but wasnt exactly sure how it would work, but something to the effect of keep our rental (with budget) and drive home and drop off at a location in Canada??
