Backpacks on rides

This has probably been asked, but as this is our first trip without a stroller, we're going to bring a backpack (or two) to bring in food, water, etc.

Are there limitations to the size of bages that can be taken on rides?

Also, do we have to bring our bag on Incredicoaster, or is there a place to temporarily leave it?

Thanks.

I always bring a backpack (AP holder). It's not like Universal Studios where they make you put the backpack into a locker prior to riding anything. I've never had an issue w/ it. Generally, I place the backpack at my feet.

I don't think there's an official limit, but obviously if you bring a bag that is physically too large to fit next to your feet (like a suitcase), that will be a problem. I've never seen that happen and a normal backpack fits just fine. We've taken one on incredicoaster (when it was Screamin). I don't know if they would hold it for you if you ask - you could try, but I would imagine they don't want to be responsible for making sure it gets back to the right person.

The only rides that come to mind that we don't take the bag on are the Symphony Swings (loose items are left at the base of the ride) and Grizzly (we use one of the free lockers so our stuff stays dry).

We always take backpacks and have no problems. We use regular school size backpacks. Most of the rides we just put them at our feet or put one foot through the straps so they don't slide away. Indiana Jones has a hook that you can hang them on. Almost lost one once. I would have been embarrassed to be THAT GUY that shuts down a ride. Most other rides we have no problem.

I always take a backpack with me. The last few years i took the $20 with purchase backpack. It was a little bigger than I wanted to carry to moving to a slightly smaller like an old school jansack backpacbackpack. For any ride you feel you might lose it stick one leg through the strap. I did that on guardians and didn't have any issues.

Best to travel light if possible. Carrying a bag is a pain IMHO.
Agreed! If we could go back to no bag, we would. lol thankfully next trip no more diapers!!!

Even with a stroller we didn’t load it down though. One bag. 1-2 diapers. Minimal snacks. Waters. No waters if we don’t bring a stroller. Sometimes with our kids we bring one diaper and a baby carrier. We usually try to use a tiny purse. Even with a 2 yo.

**We stay in walking distance and take a long midday break. **

I brought a decent sized camera backpack on our recent trip and had no problem with any ride, including Incredicoaster. It has a waterproof slip cover so it was fine on Grizzly River Run (and yes, we got hit by the geyser once and got soaked head to toe; it was awesome!). Some of the rides are a bit tight, but we managed fine.

Sometimes CMs will agree to watch your bag at the podium on the loading platform (IJA comes to mind), but this doesn't always happen. Best to make sure your backpack isn't overloaded and can fit easily between your legs. Then, as other posters have suggested, put one leg through the strap/s to make sure the bag is secure in the vehicle. (Remember the nightmare when some guy's backpack fell out of the vehicle in the loop on what was then CS? Shut the ride down for more than a day. So preventable...) And don't forget that there are lockers of various sizes in both parks. You can keep lots of stuff readily available throughout the day without having to carry it around with you all the time.

I’ve never had an issue taking our backpack on the rides. On the coasters I just tuck it by my feet and loop my leg through the strap.
Just remember to remove your leg from the strap BEFORE getting out of the ride...nearly ate it getting of the Incredicoaster a couple of months ago :sad2:

A regular sized backpack should fit fine at your feet on most rides. With Splash Mountain, it will probably get wet though! Grizzly River, we all stacked bags in the center and only the one on top got wet, oops, but not significantly. That probably varies!

I see tons of people carrying around school-sized backpacks or larger in the parks, so I'd venture to say as long as it's not too large, you should be fine. I always get a locker to stow away jackets and souvenirs and just carry around a LeSportsac Kasey bag, personally. I hate being bumped into by large backpacks when I'm in line, though, and I don't want to do that to anyone else, either.

Along with Symphony Swings, they also ask guests to leave bags on the ground for Soarin' (if it doesn't fit in the pouch under the seat) and Jumpin' Jellyfish. For all other rides, I've done as others have said, I've put the bag on the floor and put one leg through a loop to secure it. I've also seen guests wear their backpack in the front for rides that don't have chest safety harnesses (e.g., Matterhorn, Big Thunder, etc.). For Incredicoaster, I would look into a locker to avoid "being that guy". For the water rides, I've carried a small plastic bag with me to cover my bag (mostly to protect the electronics - like cameras, batteries, and phones - I've also just stuck those things in a ziploc inside my bag and let the bag get wet).

(Alternatively, depending on the age/height of your child, you can also leave the bags with the adult that is not riding. We've done that in the past when we had rider swap - the first group would leave their bags with the one that wasn't riding and then switch when it was the second group's turn.)

We carry a slightly smaller school sized backpack containing bottles of water, our rain jackets/ponchos, and snacks. It stays on my back the entire day for easy access while in line for rides. Unlike Universal, it's fine to take it on rides, i just put it between my legs on the floor of the ride vehicle.

I highly recommend the backpack we bought. It was at an Eddie Bauer, so it feels durable, yet it's collapsible for travel purposes, and folds into about a 5x5 square.
