on the roller coasters and other rides, if we are carrying backpacks...do they go on the ride with us or are there lockers to hold them til we are off the ride? I am wanting to encourage my kids to carry their own things this trip, but this maybe the snag...

Our backpacks go with us on all the rides at Disney. Just make sure they are secured either in the designated area on the ride itself or on your body. I have a cross body bag that stays on me at all times, but my husband will put his backpack on the floor and secure it either behind his feet or around his ankle if it won't fit in the provided area. Have fun!

Yes, Disney allows backpacks to go on the floor in front of you on the Rock 'n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. I know some of the more fearful guests will put a foot through the straps, but on RnR the positive G forces while you are upside down are high enough that they are not going to fall out.

On a side note, Universal on the other hand requires loose articles too be stowed in a locker or with a non-rider on several of their rides. On the ones that do, they provide free lockers for the duration of the ride. Their rides though tend to be more forceful than the ones at Disney or in some cases the ride vehicles are more open so the ride of loose articles flying is greater.

Backpacks can go on ALL rides. This is part of why I love WDW!!!! There was a waterproof space on Kali, too.

When DD was 10 she had a waist pack that she carried most of the time. Sometimes we would stick it in our backpack when she got tired of it. If they're not carrying too much, those drawstring backpacks shouldn't be too uncomfortable. If it's hot, their backs may get a little sweaty.

We only use the locker for Kali River Rapids. They do have a space for your bags on the ride but it doesn't close all that well. Have fun!

Of the rides that we went on, the only one we had to leave beside the ride was Soarin.

there's lockers near the entrance of each park but not near each thrill ride.

you just take your backpack on the rides with you.
i've taken a backpack/purse on every ride and i've never had a problem.

on some thrill rides such as space mountain there are small mesh pouches although my backpack usually does not easily fit in the pouch so i just loop a strap around the lap bar.

on other rides such as tower of terror and rock n roller coaster there are no pouches so i just loop a strap around my leg.

Disney Fan...even on like the rockin' rollercoaster or tower of terror?

Yes. Like a previous poster said, on RnR the force really holds your stuff, but my husband loops it on his ankle just to feel better about it! We've never had a problem. Enjoy!:thumbsup2

I always loop my foot through for peace of mind but my backpack goes everywhere.

The only WDW ride with lockers nearby is Kali River Rapids in the AK. All other parks the lockers are at park entrances only

Sounds like the loop around the ankle is pretty common I do it every time I ride Everest or RNRC.
