looking to go to a counter-service lunch at MGM - which has more variety &/or better quality - ABC commissary or the Backlot express? thanks.

Either is pretty good. I would just go with where you are at the time in the park and make your decision from there.

Backlot doesn't seem to have a lot of indoor seating but the food is pretty good. Huge portions. Good burgers and fries. Never tried the commissary.

Backlot Express is quite good, and there is a lot of inside seating (it's just a little unconventional). The commissary may have more variety, but has gotten mixed reviews as far as quality and taste goes.

Pretty much the same.
I would just go with where you happen to be. Neither is worth going out of the way for.

And prefer Backlot. Commissary had enough choices and our food was good, but we wanted something with alittle more atmosphere and less crowding. We felt like the commissary style was hurried and people were "hawking" for seats.

Backlot food is good, burgers good and had a topping bar. There is LOTS of seating but it's not all in one room, lots of rooms, greenhouse type room etc. so there is the illusion it is smaller. All kinds of things to look at all over, props etc.

We've dined at both and much prefer Backlot Express. We didn't care for Commissary at all.

We ate at both last summer. We really liked Backlot Express. The burgers were excellent and huge. We also liked the frozen Cokes and the atmosphere. My DH did not care for the Commissary.
